  • Snorkel or Bash Plate?

Ok so I have a spare $600 or so that has been approved to be spent on the Prado

I'm tossing up between getting a snorkel (probably Safari) or an underbody bash plate. What do you reckon?

After doing about $7k worth of damage to the underbody of my then new Pajero when I hit a submerged rock crossing a river, I know the value of good underbody protection but I also want to explore the High Country and Walhalla areas which will probably require the odd river crossing.

    Thoughts?

Go a snorkle and walk the rivers/creesk first so you know where the submerged rocks are. Move them if you need to.

Snorkel... Prado already has a bash plate (not exceptionally good one - but it has one), but there is nothing to stop the engine from having a good swallow of the bad stuff!

            Re: Snorkel or Bash Plate?

I too owned a NS Pajero and the plastic sump guard was pathetic. I would go plate over snorkel for that vehicle.
As mentioned above the Prado has a steel bash plate. It's rubbish but should be enough to save your sump, once.

Is it a novated lease vehicle? If so the bash plate can be packaged as a replacement. Maybe something to consider, but I would go the snorkel as a priority.

Thanks for the advice guys. Ended up getting a Safari snorkel and had it installed by Toyota today.
