At the risk of being too far OT but for the benefit of education (mine too since I had no idea possy was a word Urban Dictionary or not) posse was the original spelling from the Latin posse comitatus. A group of men (?) assembled to assist in law enforcement.

Might be a little while as my work involves touring. So I won't be home again until mid next month.
Also got the extra antenna mount supplied and fitted for $10 so happy with the deal.

I used to fit everything myself but these days a bit less pedantic, so bar, suspension and snorkel are someone else's problem. Good price. Post pics when you are done!

I was, then I asked how much to fit. $300. So I figured I'd get my weekend back for $300, good deal.

Ordered my white Smart Bar this afternoon.
The balance of the opinions IMO is that its a good bar, and for me, the weight is what convinced me.

I don't think anyone would argue that the Toyota bars are pretty useless, I've seen that for myself.
From what I can tell the Smart Bar is a big step up from the Toyota bar.
I also think it's pretty funny that a lot of people state looks as the reason for choosing a steel bar.
And Roo, from what I see it's all just opinions presented as facts.

Steve
I care naught about what strangers on the internet think about anything, let alone decisions I've made regarding my truck (or anything else for that matter).
There are many people on this forum that I've met and regard as good people, and others that are regular contributors who are constructive in their comments, and are out there doing what I love which is getting out and about this great country. Their opinions I respect.
I simply posted my thoughts if someone at some point wanted a reasonably balanced view, I really don't care what anyone thinks- just trying to be a contibuting member of what used to be a very good forum. Hopefully it will return to that at some point.
So if anyone actually cares about the SB, the install or further photos, let me know.
Trev
ps, All is not lost, I did learn something from this thread- had never heard of the Streisand Effect before
pps. Reads a bit harsh on Steve - not directed at you or anyone else in particular.Last edited by Trevc; 17-09-2013, 07:05 PM.

As a source of information I am skeptical but before 4wd action was roo'ed they did what looked to be a comprehensive frontal protection review and the smartbar scored well as compared to the 'winners' as it took the same hits with minimal deformation

SkyWalker has the thread been hijacked? Certainly not by those you claim if it is. I don't consider strong opinion hijacking. Though I have no idea what one of Roos posts is about
The BHP thing has been coming for a while. Everyone in every industry analyses incidents and injuries looking for causation so that not only is that particular incident or injury prevented but also like incidents. My Safety Manager mentioned the BHP investigation a few years ago. It seems pretty much every accident with a Hilux resulted in a roll over. So they asked why. It was pretty obvious adding all that weight up high did the stability no favours. All this mine spec stuff was way out of hand. As an aside we recently bought some new feeder cranes and went mine spec for a number of reasons. Some good stuff but some things that make you ask why the hell is that like that? Mine spec mate!
The Safety people investigating the mine spec add ons asked why do we take a vehicle which meets ANCAP and then add stuff to it which isn't tested the same way? Do we need all this stuff for the job the vehicle has to do? And the result was leave the thing alone which flew in the face of what everyone in that industry had been doing for years. And there will be a whole new argument from those who are used to the gear not having it anymore.
As to whether any one style of bar is better than another in any realnworld incident is open to speculation. Testing as done isn't representative of every possible real world scenario. At the moment the testing regime for bars is what the manufacturers of bars test to because that is how they get compliance certificates. They comply with that legislation and that enables them to sell the bars as compliant. Does that mean the bar is better than no bar? Does that mean a T13 bar is better than a deluxe winch bar? Depends under what circumstances. So who really knows.
I had a Smartbar on my 90 and it was good. I have said that here before. I have a T3 steel bar on my 150 for the brush protection and light animal strikes and a mounting platform for additional lighting. I would have considered another Smartbar if it didn't compromise approach and looked better than it does. I would have put a nudge bar on too except it leaves the factory plastic there.
I think given a big enough animal strike it won't matter what is on the front. Whether no bar or a Smartbar or a Whatthestuff steel or aluminium bar fares best is moot.
If you want a bar fit what you want. The only criteria you have to satisfy is what you set not what everyone else on a forum says.Last edited by mjrandom; 17-09-2013, 09:12 AM.

Wow!! This forum has really gone to the S#@*T house hasn't it!!!
I'm feeling a "Streisand effect" coming on!!
There is now clearly no limits on thread hijacking and the derailing of threads! .... This forum is now full of it!
If the cl icky posy groups don't like a thread they trash it!!
If you want to make a good forum S%#*T this is how you do it boys!.. Good on ya!!
I do believe IMHO that the "METAL" bar days are coming to an end!!
That is why the smart bar is just that!!... "SMART!... Soft works and hard hurts!
BHP Billiton has helped to put another nail in the coffin for all you guys trying to support/promote all the 4x4 shops and retailers and obviously in a desperation!!... Like its not that obvious is it guys???
Ambo's and cop cars are moving over to smart bars and last year despite the desperado's accusing BHP of cost cutting the ANCAP "DOES" have "CRED" world wide and metal bars "DO" compromise air bags and "ROPS" are proven to change centre of gravety of the vehicle and encourage rollover and have a high increase of head injuries.
We know the metal bar industry has now lost over 50,000 sales a year in just Australia alone!!... Is that the reason for hijacking and derailing of this thread?
If you don't think the METAL-BAR industry is hurting (Like you don't already know?) you only have to read what has happened to this thread to confirm this!
Read these links below and see what you make of what has been written.
ANCAP: BHP Billiton prohibits bullbars and ROPS on 5 star vehicles (05 November 2012)
BHP accused of rolling over on vehicle safety (12 April, 2013) .. "NOTE" .. Make sure you read the 15 comments after the blurb!
Then when you have read the above then go to this link below and read the last two FAQ "Does the fitment of bullbars (manufacturer endorsed or otherwise) to a vehicle affect its ANCAP safety rating?" AND "Does the installation of an internal rollbar / rollcage affect a vehicles ANCAP safety rating?"
ANCAP Frequently Asked Questions
To confirm that the "METAL_BAR" industry is hurting you only have to read the "Tigerz11 & Roo Systems Banned from Melb 4x4 Show?" to see how dirty and desperate everyone is and the lengths they go to scavenge and destroy competition!
