  • So I got a few quotes for bullbars...

I everyone this is my first post on this forum and I'm a first time Prado owner. Well not quite yet, I pick the car up next week. Anyway I have been shopping around for bull bars and I'm torn between the ARB Deluxe bar and the TJM T13.
I was quoted $2200 colour coded and fitted from TJM. But ARB quoted me $2695 colour coded and fitted. There is a big difference between those two prices and from my understanding the TJM bar replaces the bumper and the original fog lights are used in the bull bar. I know the ARB bar requires more mucking around to fit because they have to cut the bumper and they use there own fog lights. But $495 difference! Is it really worth it, what makes it that much better or expensive I should say?

I am doing the same shop around now, ARB requires the bumper to be cut and reinstalled, TJM is either cut and re installed or they give you inserts to fill the gap between the bumper and headlights. Neither are "bumper replacements" like the 120 series. I have been quoted in Adelaide, ARB, $1866-00 DIY inc colour coded, TJM $ 2080-00 DIY inc colour coded. Im going for ARB as I think it looks better, they are both very good products.

I got the dealer to order my colour coded ARB delux bar. $1895 fitted. Maybe if you havent taken deliver yet you should see what deal the Toyota Dealership can get?

I looked at genuine toyota. The 150 looks crap. Appear to have just tacked the top bit onto the half bottom section, joined by casty alluminium bits at top. The toyota website picture looks nothing like real life . ARB painted and fitted, about $2200 Murray Bridge ARB

Yep I would recommend you ask the dealer too. I have a TJM T13 bar which cost $1890 fitted through the dealer. This included new fog lights (mine's a GX where fog lights are not standard). My bar is plain black but the infill piece was still colour coded. So the ARB bar may well be cheaper too.

In fact I got the dealer in Brisbane to fit ARB suspension, roof rack, hayman reece towbar, TJM bullbar, Airtec snorkel from new and the dealer price for all of those items was well below what I could get them for myself. I was really surprised as I thought the dealer would put a big mark-up on them.

Thanks for the advice fellas I'll go speak to the dealer in the morning. I should have the car buy the end of next week. It's driving me insane waiting for it, apparently it just got of the wharf. :|
I realised today that I haven't even taken a Prado for a test drive! I feel in love with it when I first opened the door at the dealership and looked at the interior. Except the interior I looked at was that creamy colour one. I think mines come with the black trim because I ordered Silver Pearl. Anyway rant over.

Obviously not everyones circumstances are the same but if you have anything fitted to the vehicle pre delivery You will be paying an additional 33% Tax ontop of your purchase price as the car is over the LCT threshold (currently $57,466.00 including GST)
This can quite quickly strip any savings..
You may however negotiate pricing pre delivery and have items fitted at first service negating the above !!!
