Towball Acccesory / Rear Vehicle Protection

Has anyone found a good accessory for substituting the towball hitch for day / day driving with something to provide a *bit* more rear protection? Obviously protection is a subjective thing in a crash.

I've had two people run in to the back of me in my driving time. Every time the towball has punched a hole in the front of their car (sucks to be them) but ultimately it still does a fair bit of rear damage. I'm thinking something a bit broader might minimise that damage.

I often see bike carrier bases (probably not super strong) and taxi often have little (30cm?) vertical bars coming up.

I have seen a polished bar which works like a step I guess. Don't know how much protection it would give if someone bupmed into it. Slides into the towbar hitch and runs across the back of the car.

Looks promising, price seems pretty reasonable. Might ping them to see if they do black The product picture has highlighted an interesting possibility - conflicting with parking sensors!
