  • Gravel Rush mud flaps

Just received my new mud flaps
What a professional company to deal with.
From the time of order these people were very helpful.
Recieved kit by post and proceeded to install them without a hassle.
Every part clearly labeled and very precise instructions I couldn't have been happier.

If your looking for replacement flaps get on to these guys and do away with the useless tojo ones.

    Cheers

    Some photos would be appreciated

Seems like Silvo got some credit for being the mud flap test driver on their website.

          Checkout the Gravel Rush website.

          http://www.gravelrush.com.au/

          Good selection of photos.

I would like to thank those PP members who tested the prototypes, made suggestions.

The finished product does the job very well. I doubt if Toyota could top Gravel Rush in vehicle protection.

          Cheers,

              Re: Gravel Rush mud flaps

              Hi to all,

Below are some photos of our rig after travelling over several kilometres of road works with our GR150 mudflaps.

The big difference in what the new Toyota mudflap will offer and the GR150 mudflap is the amount of mudflap outside the outer edge of the tyre itself and the length.

Toyota seem to have made a product that is pleasing to the eye, whereby Gravel Rush have come up with a product to do the job, which was extensively tested by several PP members.

In the end, owners will decide which is best for their needs.

              Hope the photos help.

              Cheers,

The thing is, Toyota haven't finalised their designs. At the moment, they're only trialing their prototypes. I don't think it's fair to speculate on something you have no definitive answer for. It's misleading to people reading this thread thinking that Gravel Rush are the most economical way of solving the 150 mudflap problem. Sure it's been proven that Gravel Rush solves the problem but then so do many other mudflap manufacturers and $50 Clark Rubber DIYs, all of which comes at a cost. Toyota have recognised the problem, and will be offering FREE newly designed mudflaps that should solve the problem. There's no harm in waiting either, if your rear bumper is damaged (due to the poor mudflap design), it has been confirmed that Toyota will also provide a FREE bumper respray.

To everyone reading this thread. Before throwing $400 at a surefire way to prevent rear bumper damage I urge you to seek the facts. It may be more sensible to wait for Toyota's fix as you don't lose out on anything. The worst case scenario is that the new Toyota mudflaps don't work of which you can then consider installing an aftermarket mud flap. Best case scenario is you get Toyota GENUINE mudflaps that solves the problem and in the process save yourself from having to spend $400. Of course, if you can't wait for the fix, by all means go for the Gravel Rush as many have sent in positive reports. I'm not saying either is better I'm just stating the options and facts as they are so that you can make an INFORMED decision.

                Cheers

                  Re: Gravel Rush mud flaps

Toyota rang today & will fit the new mud flaps on Tuesday next week as the Prado will be in for a service.

A big thank you to everybody who took their complaint to Toyota.

                    Re: Gravel Rush mud flaps

I'm an advocate of the GR flap, mainly because of how hard i drive on gravel roads, with camper trailers attached flinging rocks and crap everywhere. the GR flap is not the only protection i run for the Prado while towing, I also have a Stonestomper guard - this combination works for me.

The GR flaps have a similar, but also different purpose to the new prototype. they extend the standard flaps ability. they are wider and longer. the rocks don't only come out in a straight line backwards, especially with a more aggressive tyre, they come out sideways too. This isn't so much an issue at the front, but it is an issue at the back when towing. I trust the flaps alone to protect my camper, but, there is a reason you will see wide flaps like the Rock Tamers floating around because straight back isn't enough protection when you start to get into a large amount of gravel work. rocks hit those trailers and bounce back and smash windows and damage not only the back bumper, but doors too.

i am keen to get a set of these prototypes onto my truck and see how they go. especially if toyota are happy to spray/replace my back bumper as well. my dealer has had some trouble sourcing them though, as his contact at Toyota wasn't sure about this prototype - this is a typical experience of the service at my dealer though - part of the reason i don't get my car serviced there too.

I got the same answer today as well Dan and I even contacted my mate who sold me the car and he went to the department manager of Sci Fleet Spares and he had no info on these mud flaps... Playing the waiting game as per usual with Toyota just like my pain in the ass back seats that rattle. The mud flaps do not worry me but if I can get a set for free, happy days.

No disrespect, but the people who have installed Gravel Rush had made a decision based on prevention is better than cure. It has taken Toyota 12 months or so to come up with prototypes, that will then take another 12-18 months to be supplied ? Sure .....
I am seriously considering forking out the $400 just so I don't have to wait for Toyota to organise my "free" respray.

As Richoson has commented before, the Gravel Rush mud flaps are just another accessory. Either pay up and fix the problem straight away, like I did, or hang by your short and curlies waiting for Toyota to fix the problem.

                              Yowie.
