  • Help:Rear door jammed open then shut

2days after leaving Melbourne, stopped between Quorn and Hawker and opened the back door to get something. The door would not click shut. It just bounced open as if there was no mechanism holding it shut. Operating the remote lock/unlock buttons made no difference until I held the door courtesy light switch in the closed position and then the remote button clicked onto action and I was able to proved towards Hawker. All was well until a sickly sway indicated a flattening rear right tyre. Bitumen road here and it was clear a nail/ screw had been picked up somewhere and it had just decided to leave the tyre and the air was hissing out! Pretty standard problem except the back door would not open - locked jammed in the closed position, hence could not access the spare tyre! Thought about removing the wheel cover for this trip but didn't get around to it. Had a second spare on pack rack and after retrieving jack & tools via the passenger doors ( Glad I hadn't fitted a cargo barrier yet!) I replaced the wheel with the flat.

Returned 90 ams to Port Augusta Toyota dealer who will look at it tomorrow. We are towing a van so are in the van park tonight. Dealer tech. never struck this before.

Can anyone suggest anything. Currently can't get door open,
    Cheers

Just to complete the story, Toyota dealer removed door lining from inside and opened door. Thereafter the door has continued to operate correctly. Dealer insisted on charging 1 hours labour (~$126). I will take it up with Toyota when I am home next week. If anyone has a similar problem, at any time in the future, please PM me,
    Cheers,

When I do long trips on dirt I need to blow out the rear door latch mechanism with compressed air each day otherwise it gets jamed. The first time it happened we were half way across the Great Central Road and I couldn't open the rear door to access the fridge and the cargo barrier stopped access from the front. After the initial "Oh Crap" moment I got he door open by first pushing it forward hard then pulling it open.

We had this happen three times on a recent (14 day) trip into the Pilbara. In all cases was something that activated the door lock, but prevented the door from closing completely. It was either something sticking out too far from the back or something jammed in the door seal. No amount of pulling, central locking or using the inside door latch helped. We had to crawl over the fridge from the rear seats (fun...!) and forcibly remove whatever was the problem. Then the door could be pushed shut and opened easily.
