  • Keep The Stones & Mud Off Your Side Steps

    Hi there,

I fitted some 5 mm "Insertion Rubber" on the back end of the side steps & have virtually eliminated getting stones & mud thrown onto the side steps by the rear wheels.

Below are links to photos & a template for the rubber.

The rubbber is held in position by the existing mudflap screw & the inner edge is held by a nut & bolt.

I screwed a strip of aluminium on the bottom of the rubber to clamp it to the side steps, without this, small grit got caught between the rubber & the step.

The template should be printed on A4 paper, rotated to fit the page, however check it for fitment to your Prado before using it to cut the rubber.

    Best to use stainless screws.

    Tar Trek.

    Sorry TarTrek...............

But the more mud & stones the better the adventure, I love cleaning/hosing this off
while having a cold one & reliving the day just past.

Very thoughtful of you to share your template for others to use/modify. Good work mate.

That is a terrible idea, now my idea leave them as they r, get them very muddy, let wife and kids get dirty from the mud, keep commenting on their poor design and need to change them and tell the wife that TJM make better ones that won't fill up with mud and change them over!!

        No seriously thanks for sharing.

          Tar Trek,

Thanks for sharing your idea and instructions.

The mud doesn't bother me and to be truthful if I see any I don't avoid it lol One concern I have is you have secured two parts of the body that can move independently. Not a lot of movement but never the less they do. Over time this could cause issues. I would suggest the two bolt holes in the rubber and alloy on the step be elongated or at least a larger size and not too tight to allow for movement. Rubber it self will flex but on it's own It may not be enough. Other option is for the rubber to be a longer.

          Otherwise Great idea.

Great idea! I've been wanting to do the same on the 120 but the rear door prevents this.

Hazza, the parts Tar Trek has screwed the rubber into moves together. So there's no issues with the rubber being torn apart.
