  • Fusion paint protection?

Hi guys firstly new to forum, have just bought my first prado!! got 2013 Kakadu Diesel (wont arrive till end of august). Now my dealership has offered me Fusion body protection to the car for a nice some of $2600!! They claimed it had life time warranty blah blah blah

Just wondering if anyone has gone for it? Thoughts? Horror stories etc?

    Cheers

I don't have it but reckon it's not worth the upfront monies.

Either bank the money for when you might need it, or use the funds to get a top notch polish & clean twice a year for the next 10 years. Or better, put it towards some mods for your prado.

IMHO these deals are dealer deliver 'chips'. It's their chance to 'up-size' your purchase to maximise the commission to the seller, who will probably receive a large portion of the cost to you.

They do this at point of sale as it is when you are most protective of your new 'asset' and most 'susceptible' to being convinced of the merits of the proposal.

It's just a scam to get more money out of you, not necessary. For that money, a bullbar is better paint protection

I know the bloke who owns the company which supplies all the aftermarket stuff (tint, paint, rust, interior protection plus electronic gizmos) to all the dealerships apart from Tojo and holden they use his competition (but the stuff is all the same), I could have got the paint & rust protection for free and still don't have it on my cars if that's any help to let you know what it's worth.
It's just another way to suck some extra bucks out of you when making your purchase. It's like "gap insurance" i'll give you a tip, the salesman will go into the other salesmans office and laugh at you when you walk out of the showroom after purchasing "Gap" saying "yes I got another one lol".

If you really want to you can apply better finishes yourself. Don't get duped by the dealer and pay thousands for a product that costs $100 and needs about 3 hours to apply. Same goes for internal protection as well. I am going to trial a 'glass' nano covering on my new car when it arrives. Not sure how it will go but worth a try. I put a nano coating on my wheels (not the Prado) and it does make a difference, the brake dust and there is plenty, washes off very easily compared to the previous car wheels.

That's exactly the feeling they're banking on... it's an expensive upsell that boosts their profit at point of sale.

Bank the money or source an aftermarket solution - which'll be heaps cheaper and keep around $2K in you pocket.

If it does get the better of you and the paranoia wins and you buy these warranties make sure you don't pay full bloody price, I can tell you for a fact that there is around 500% markup on these products at the price they are trying to sell them to you.

None of that crap with prevent bat shit or any of the birds that eat berries from eating through the paint work. You get that on your car best to wash it off ASAP. I worked for Toyota and we use to call it a Pro Pack which was rust, paint, and fabric protection. Paint pro was a quick hand polish with some so called special stuff, fabric pro was the same stuff you buy in Woolworths (scotch guard) for $5 a can. And rust pro is just crap that gets sprayed all over every thing that doesn't rust eg exhaust so just so you get that burning smell and there smiling all the way to the bank... Cheers Steve

I think you will find that the guarantee doesn't cover damage from bats or birds either. Check the fine print. Best to wipe it off as soon as you see it. I have a mark on my bonnet (not the Prado) for bat poo that was only on the car for a few hours while I was on a hike. Bat Guano can be nasty, just ask Dr Strangelove.

My objection to the paint protection I got on the last car was all the trolley dings and scuffs it got. Normally you'd just buff them out with a good cut and polish but with the paint protection on it, you're not allowed to polish it ever so you just have to live with the trolley dings. Then again, my wife parks in the parents parking all the time so I guess she's asking for it. When I got the prado, I promptly put bush pin striping up both sides so I wouldn't have to worry about it. Problem solved.
