Anchor Points 3rd Row

Hi All, very new here... Just bought our first Prado GLX 150 series yesterday!!

just wondering though, if anchor points for child restraints are able to be installed into the 3rd row (floor or roof) and if anyone has actually done this?? just need to know if it can be done :-) I know there are older posts about this topic but none that answer the question clearly. thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forums EmzrRig! Firstly, what year Prado is it? Does it have tracks in the back of the 3rd row seats or square recessed fixing points?

Thanks fido666 :-) its a 2013 GLX. There is nothing I can see in the 3rd row. I have the seats that fold into the floor, hope that makes sense? I cant see where any anchors could possibly be fixed. was seeing if anyone had done this yet :-(

No you can't fit a child seat in the 3rd row. You would need some modifications done that will require an engineer's certificate.

but it can be done? engineers certificate etc no problem. just needed to know its possible. do you know where in the car (roof or floor) they would install the anchors amts?

There are places that can fit extra restraint points but can be costly. I had one fitted to the middle seat of my 96 hilux but that was in WA and cost about $400.

So going off a pic of a 2010 GXL what are the fixing points in the middle of the seat backs on the 3rd row for then? My kaka is different, it has the rails on the outer edge of the seats for fixing luggage restraints to. It does not have the central fixing point like the GXL so forgive my confusion here.

Fido there are no fixing point on the 3rd row seat. What you have seen will be the handles to unlock and lift up the seat.

EmzrRig I don't like your chances, under the floor behind the 3rd row seats is just thin steel sheet. I think the roof would be out because it would be pulling the child seat up rathe than into the seat.

As yiu can see in the photo the bottom part of the 3rd row seats slides right back to near the door and above that is a this pressed steel panel that goes over the top.

Thanks everyone for all of your responses, Havago, I know what you mean about $$$ it costs an arm and a leg for anything to get done here in Alice! and out of 35000 residents, only one mechanic has a engineering certificate to make mods. and yet again.. Arm and a leg! Im going in to there this morning to ask about what can be done. fingers crossed, and will keep you all posted for future reference

Fido there are no fixing point on the 3rd row seat. What you have seen will be the handles to unlock and lift up the seat.

OK, so the bit circled in red in my pic below is just a release handle?



I always thought the release was just the one on the shoulder of the seat back.

It is a release and a handle to pull the seat up, you can use the shoulder ones for that but even with the 2nd row sears folded they are quite awkward to try and lift the 3rd row.

OK, that makes sense. The Kakadu doesn't have the manual handles, just the cargo rails same as the VX :-

SO Great news!! yes I can get anchors installed into my GLX Prado 2013 150 Series!! as you can see the back of the seat, (where the flap meets the back of the seat) the anchor will go down in there, and i can just use an extender strap to reach the anchor bolted to the car, hope that makes sense. SO for any future owners of this model, dont stress, it can be done :-) PS the picture I think is of a Kakadu, not my car.

Nice! So there's sufficient material in the sheetmetal below the seat to bolt an anchor to? Will the anchor interfere with the movement of the base of the seat as it moves fore and aft during folding/unfolding of the 3rd row?
