Ever since this forum started and probably before that people have been saying someone should design and manufacture some decent rated recovery points for the Prado. ARB finally do it and then everyone complains about the price!

Given what has gone into the design and development of those recovery points I would have thought $250 a side was not unreasonable at all.

    Cheers Andrew

Add the labour charge to it and it's steep as compared to other brands you can fit yourself without removing the Bullbar.

Yes they cost a lot more than other recovery points, that doesn't make them expensive or ridiculous.

Its a bit like saying $1500 for an ostrich wing awning is ridiculous because you can buy a Chicom Fleabay awning for a tenth of that, or as one guy suggested a $2 tarp will do the same thing. But your not comparing apples with apples.

If I had a 150 and was looking for recovery points it would be a no brainer, these are clearly head and shoulders above anything else on the market when it comes to quality, I am happy to pay for quality.

        Cheers Andrew

Lol $2 tarp. I think the ostrich wing is worth the price. I don't think these are. It's all a matter of opinion.
And besides wouldn't you make your own?

Correct, its all a matter of opinion. So often conversations on forums tend to be about high end products being ridiculously priced, a rip off, blah blah blah, so just offering an alternate point of view to help balance things out.

I am not sure I would make my own if a high quality product was available, I wouldn't have the equipment to reproduce these for less than I could buy them.

As you know I don't mind buying really good expensive stuff. Just think those are a bit too much. Luckily I don't have to think about it too much as they are not for my car 😃
I was also under the assumption that you had a humongous workshop with all the toys 😜

Enquired about price, bar has to be removed from car to install, $992.60 for 2 points installed ( 2 recovery points + 4hrs labour)

I reckon this is a bit steep too . I've no doubt that these are very well made but that's over half as much as buying a new bar( not including installation). For someone to have these installed is a costly exercise. A determining factor in choosing my points was being able to install them myself. I was originally going to strengthen the bar brackets with the arb loops attached as per 8608 did(check his rig build) by adding extra welds & gussets but I baulked when I discovered I had to remove the bar to remove these to have them welded. I could not find any points that would integrate with the deluxe bar then I heard Amts was manufacturing some points with 2 fixings so no bar removal required. For less than $125 inc postage these were a great alternative for me
                Cheers Matt

No I don't work for ARB although considering the staff discount I could be tempted to.

Got a call from Mandurah ARB the other day telling me the recovery point I ordered had arrived. Funny don't remember ordering, just enquiring (before they were even released) but the more I think about it the more I am inclined to grab the one they ordered in and get it fitted down the track.
I agree they are expensive, but as AJ says, you get what you pay for, if I do go ahead I would rather pay ARB to remove and refit my bar than tackle it myself and possibly end up with issues down the track, not to mention trying to juggle 100 plus kg's of bullbar in the driveway.
Each to their own I guess.
                      Kev,

2010 Silver 5dr GXL, Auto, diesel, ARB Deluxe bar, ARB bash plates, lightforce 170's, safari snorkel, towbar, dual batteries, air bags, trans cooler, Kings/Koni's, ARB rack, Cooper S/T Maxx's, Rock Tamers, Beaudesert 2.75" exhaust and more to come.

Yeah that's a fair call Kev. I wouldn't wanna do it myself either. AJ probably would so it could save him some coin for other toys 😀

I removed the bullbar off my HJ60 back in the day and it wasn't much fun, can only imagine what the deluxe bar with all the internal bolts and stuff to juggle would be like. The kids and neighbours would learn more new swear words, don't really have the patience for that sort of stuff.

Are people looking at one or two of the ARB recovery points, reading some of the posts, it looks like just one is the go ? if so, which side would be best, from safety I am thinking left hand side (LHS) , so if anything lets go, it doesn't go through the drivers side windscreen.

Thinking about these for both sides, my bar has to come off for the winch install anyway!

Haha there isn't any real way in determining how the recovery gear will fail and which way it will fling back towards you. Just make sure you have a damper bag or something similar to limit your chances! Much of a muchness for which side in my opinion.
