  • Stains on Rear Door - Tyre Residue

I have some staining on the Rear door, under where the spare is mounted. It appears to be residue from the spare??? Any Ideas?

I get the same, every so often I take the spare off and use some meguiars paint cleaner to take the staining off, then a quick squirt of liquid wax over it. Brings it back to new really quickly, hoping with the rear bar that will be fixed though.

Fair point. Not so much complaining as trying to find a cure....I'm like a medical researcher...Haha...(but seriously, those guys do great work)

Last time, I used a very mild thinning solution, the stains came off in a flash without having an effect (or is it affect?) on the paint.
I will look into the paint cleaner you suggest.

Is it common for tyres to leave messes??? Makes me feel like the tyre's melting away haha...

To me the biggest concern is the sand and dirt that gets between the tyre and the paint. I have spaced my spare using an amts bracket. Lets me fit the 275s without rubbing at all.

I have plenty of clearance between the spare and the body work (I only have a grandtrek for my spare).
I can only imaging that dirt/grit etc between the spare and body work would be just like having some sandpaper in there...not really ideal.

Autobarn, supercheap and repco all sell the paint cleaner, at least they do up here. It's in a red/maroon polish bottle.

The paint cleaner, as with any thinners, tar removers, etc. will not affect the paint, but will remove the protective wax coating. The spray wax just replaces this, not quite as good as a real wax, but a lot quicker and easier.
