  • Plastic Trim Clips

So I was poking around my engine bay tonight and I noticed that 2 of the clips that hold the plastic trim in place were sitting on the trim near the grill. I then noticed that 4 others were essentially falling out too.

Does anyone know why? Should they randomly come loose? How do I put them back in so that they don't loosen again?

After the clips have been removed and re-fitted a few times they tend to lose their locking ability, could also be vibrations releasing the catch. Going off memory you need to push the center pin up before fitting them and once fitted just push the center bit down till it is level with the cowling at the top of the clip. Experiment a little, if you push them down too far they just unlock again.

Thanks! I've never had these ones out. I'll go and fiddle.
I swore I could hear a rattle on the way home from work today.

New clips are pretty cheap, I recently replaced those ones in my 120, I went to my local crash shop and they didn't even charge me for a dozen or so I got.

          Here's a pic of one that's unlocked.

Note this one has been out a few times and one of the lugs that holds the pin in place has broken off so even locked it doesn't hang on too well. I need to replace a few but last time I did this at Toyota they charged me $5 for one clip!

All fixed. I was a bit violent with one and broke one of the lugs off. Then I used my ruler to gently lever the lugs out and push the pin back out.
