    G'day Wifecallsmegrumpy
Are you getting the prototypes or has your dealer got access to stock of the new mudflaps? Are they putting them on for free? I am also in WA and if the new mudflaps are now available I want to put pressure on my dealer to give me a set. From reading the forum it seems that dealers around the country all have a different story, ranging from 'Toyota won't be producing new mudflaps' to 'we have the new ones and we'll fit them for free'. I think what we need to do on this forum is collect information about dealers who do the right thing and then everyone should approach their dealer asking for the same service. Cheers.

      Doug

My understanding is Toyota have a few sets of a prototype of a new mudflap design, which they are trialling with some fortunate owners. I guess you just had to be on their radar a month or so again when they were looking for triallists. I am heading off to the Kimberly and Arnhem Land in a few weeks, so they saw that as a decent trial. I did not want to pursue the question of repairs until I return, in case there is further damage.

It sounds like they have sent some to other markets eg South Africa.

I would have thought the new design would turn up on new deliveries at some point - probably before there were any retrofits.

        Doug,

My dealer has never used the term prototype or that this was a trial with me but he did mention something about limited stock. I don't pretend to know what Toyota is thinking about making these available to others but you would think keeping any major retrofit / recall from the media would be a good thing considering recent press.

In my case it was a simple as showing them the shot blasted rear bumper at the first "free" one month service. The solution was offered without prompting which is what I am happy about.

What did your dealer say ?

          Guys,

Good news on the mudflap front. Toyota phoned today and advised me that since they had raised a ‘complaint’ on my behalf to Toyota’s Australian Head Office they will replace the mudflaps with the ones that Bushwacked is trialling.

My next step is to take the car to Toyota for photos of the stone damage; they will email to a paint shop, get the quote and submit to Toyota Head Office.

My Toyota dealer does not have the mudflaps yet so he said there is no rush, but at least we can get the ball rolling.

I was led to believe that only the people who have lodged a complaint will be in line for the first of the replacement flaps with the rest following thereafter.

This is good news and Toyota to their credit have listened to the people. I congratulate all the Pradopoint members for the signing of petitions and for letting their dealers know that there was a problem. Just goes to show that there is safety in numbers.

At the moment I am the source of mud flap information for my dealer. They have heard nothing from Toyota. I hope Toyota aren't going to take the attitude that they will only give free replacement mud flaps to those with damaged vehicles! The whole point is to prevent damage in the first place.

              Hi there,

In my opinion, I don't think Dealers who are "Doing The Right Thing" should be named on this Forum.

They may be used as a "Punching Bag" by disgruntled owners who bought Prados from Dealers who just don't care about their customers.

Those who are "Doing The Right Thing" should be left in peace to continue to serve their own customers.

I have a fantastic relationship with My Dealer & nothing is a problem, which is exactly the reason I have never named him & jeopardised that relationship.

My Dealer does not deserve to be harrassed by those who bought Prados elsewhere.

In fact, I made him aware of this thread to assure him that I have not named him.

Interesting point, I didn't plan on naming the dealer until the work was completed successfully. Especially after the numb nuts that took the price information I posted back to the same dealer and demanded money back because he got a better deal.

On the other hand, you might find dealers are happy to take service business off other dealers, it seems the repair and replace costs are going to Toyota Corporate anyway.

                  Tar Trek,

Point taken and I have removed the dealers identity from my post. But seriously, look at my location, how many Toyota dealers do you think there are here?

Great info guys. I've just spent the last 2 afternoons trying to scrub the crus off by company 150 series in preparation to pass it onto the next guy when my shiny new GXL get delivered next week. I just shot the dealer an email asking him to confirm that my new machine will come fitted with the new type of mudflap. It is supposed to get delivered to the dealership tomorrow with a build date of 1/1/2011 so it will be the first MY11 they have sold.

I guess if it doesn't have the new mudflaps on it I will be waiting a while longer for my new car because after seeing the amount of damage the company car has received after ~35K of mostly bitumen driving, I would rather leave the shiny new one at the dealership in protest until I get my way.

I will post again once I see the vehicle pre-delivery.

                    Cheers,

                      Roadblock,
I honestly doubt the 2011 plated 150s will have the new and improved mudflaps. From what is being discussed here, they're only in the testing phase and from what has been said, they still aren't doing the job right.

Unless there's stock around, it'd take 12 weeks for a new prado to be built and shipped to Australia. The last time I talked to my dealer, the 150 prados are going like hotcakes and he's pretty much selling whatever he can get his hands on. So refusing to take delivery of the car would just mean the dealer will sell it off to somebody else and you'll be stuck without a car for a while. If the road conditions you drive on causes that much stone damage, you might want to look at some aftermarket mudflaps for the time being. I wouldn't hold my breath on this mudflap fix.

                      Cheers

Has anyone tried the TOYOTA HILUX MK6 SR5 05-09 mud flaps from Thailand on eBay?

They look like they should fit and come for $100 for the Front and Rear including postage.

Thanks. Looks like the same mud flaps that I was looking at, there is no part number so difficult to be sure but for $100 I'll give it a try.

                                William,

I actually ordered this one back in November so you're right on the money at 12 weeks. I got a reply back from the dealer today and colour me surprised they hadn't heard of the upgraded flaps but agreed to fit them as soon as they can get them in. I've actually got the salesman onto PradoPoint and he agrees theres a lot more knowledge here than what they get through from Toyota.

I had a look at the gravel rush product too and they look great, especially for protection of camper trailers and the like.
