  • wooley - Thanks for your last response ......it pushed me into not giving up and so I've now written a letter to Toyota UK outlining the issues including a lot of what you said together with photocopies of some of the pictures on this forum. I included the fact that over the past 15 years I have bought 2 brand new Land Cruisers and the last one just a year old (from Toyota), my wifes previous car was a Corolla just changed to a Auris Hybrid. I don't suppose this 'declaration' of brand loyalty will make a blind bit of difference... but at the end of the day - I'm only asking for a set of rear longer mud flaps that fit my car for goodness sake (the front modified ones fit I think as there is no under body extension panel) - if that requires a rear bumper change then thats as it should be.....

But I'm not holding my breath....!

    • If anyone on here gets the replacement mudflaps and has a set of gravel rush flaps, let me know as I will buy them off you.I'm desperate to replace my missing flap.

      • Well on my 3rd attempt to get the mudflaps fitted at the 20k servive, but no rush as the damage is already done, the service manager looked at my sandblasted bumper and said he would get me back for a 2 day visit and give me a loan car as the bumper needed fixed.... i also reported the start of the famous "tailshaft clunk", its been happening occasionally for the past 3000ks approx.
Went back to pick the car up and he said they are ordering in a new tailshaft in for me and it will be fitted same time as the bumper fix.

Im surprised its been so easy

        • My mudflaps have finally arrived, booked in for first thing Monday. At the same time they will be assessing the stone chip damage and also checking the tailshaft clunk which appeared shortly after my 20K service (as Alternative above).

            • Woo Hoo
At last. Dealer ordered early November 11 and still not received end first week of January 12.
Amazingly when I sent an email of complaint to Toyota a week later, the dealer had them within a couple of days.
Hmm, must have just been a coincidence
Anyway fitted today and look good.
Train to and from work to dealer and back and not running to timetables. No wonder I still hate the Melbourne Metro, still.
Service record states "Ïnstalled improved design mudguards"
Good luck to others having them fitted.
              regards
              Mal

              • Well, mud flap problem still not resolved for me..... after the failed DPR report, I submitted a letter, together with extracts from this forum, including the photographs of muck/rash up the panels, to Toyota UK customer relations.

Apparently my vehicle is 'Homoglated' - as all yours should be. Yes - I had to look it up as well.

So as a result of this so called 'Homoglation' Toyota GB are unable to provide technical assistance to 'modifications' outside of the manufacturers specification. etc etc.... (I know!)

They also pointed out they searched their records back to 2002 (so including all UK Land Cruisers I guess) and mine is only the second complaint and additionally as 'in general the models we sell in the UK are used with standard road tyres on A and B roads, motorways, dual carriageways etc'.... they consider the mud flaps fitted are 'fit for purpose'. I suppose they have a point - if we drove on gravel roads, sand and the like - much of what you in Aus seem to do that may be different.

Nevertheless, there is damage to the usual points, and all new UK models have the longer mud flaps (the latter Toyota UK did not acknowledge).

I have to say though, the page and a bit letter from Toyota was fairly personable and not a pre-printed jobby sort of thing. They appreciated my 'strength of feeling on the matter' etc etc.. but there nothing they could do because we've been 'Homoglated'.

So, for me, no driving on gravel/sandy roads. I can't see any point pursuing the matter with the 'office of fair trading/trading standards' - Toyota UK seem to have 'all bases covered' as it were. If there were more than just two UK complaints and able to submit a petition then there might be some mileage in pushing it further - but that seems very unlikely.

                • No problems with me, I contacted the dealer last week regarding getting the bigger mudflaps & a week later all fitted under warranty. Previously I had a ford territory & everything was a major battle with the ford dealer, with Toyota everything has been nice & easy. So much so that I always feel suspicious..

Anyway these mudflaps look like they'd work better, will see in march when we head to central Australia..

                    • Just booked my next service & requested the mudflap upgrade under warranty, dealer claimed total ignorance until I quoted him the part numbers (as posted in this thread by Riv39. Thanks mate).

This was my fourth request for a solution, so strike up another one for PP.

Flaps are now on order & will be fitted at service or shortly after if not immediately available.

                      • Had my replacements fitted last week. As I already lost one of the originals in a mudhole out the back of Kenilworth they replaced the three remaining and I paid for the fourth.

                        • Well folks I've had the new ones on for a couple of weeks now and the fronts are ok but with the lift the back ones still leave tabout the last 100mm vulnerable, putting the Gravel Rush ones back on the rear.

                            Richo,

You change your mudflaps as often as you change your underwear.

My G.R. are still going well, so far.

Do you know why the owner of the G.R. business is not producing them anymore? When I last spoke to him, he said he was having problems obtaining the correct grade of rubber for the mudflaps.

                            • Hi Yowie

I tried to get the dealer to supply only but they insisted that the only way I was getting them was to have them installed. So I decided to give them a go, lesson learnt, they are going back on.

Not sure why he isn't doing them, I have a contact that I'm going to show the flaps to and see if he is interested in making them as there is still a market for them as I don't think the new ones will suit people that do some serious off roading.

See ya on the tracks, Richp.

                              • Thanks heaps to P Point and all you guys. Got the longer ones fitted today and when I picked it up Toyota suggested they also put on the front ones and repaint the rear bumper all under warranty. The first one in Canberra by the sound of it>
