  • Stability Control

I took my 150 up through Barrington Tops then via the dirt Scone road back to the highway . I used to have a 120 and it was interesting with the 150 to experience the brake being applied , is that the stability control ? when giving it a bit of a punt through the corners . I noticed that it applies the brake rather abruptly to the wheel that it wants to control even to the point of locking it up momentarily . It certainly gives you a different driving experience when punting it along in the loose stuff but I'm not sure that I like it .
What's the feeling amongst you guys ?

    Cheers

    Ross

Our 120 has option pack 1 so has stability control. We had the same experience you just described and it is certainly different. Don't know either way whether I like it or not. Would like to think it would assist the wife in certain circumstances to keep her on the road though.

Doesn't the 150 have a button to disable stability control? That gives you the ultimate control. It's a tragedy that Toyota didn't offer such a button in the 120.

Can't remember exactly but does locking the centre diff disable stability control?

On my 2009 VX pressing centre diff lock will disengage stability control which I do on the sand as I can't stand the constant braking and beeping but I keep it in hi most of the time.

Momentarily pressing the TRC button turns that on and off, if you hold in the TRC button for a few seconds it turns off the stability control as well as the traction control.

Doesn't the braking and beeping in sand mean the traction control or multi terain select is doing it's job in keeping the car from bogging down in said sand ?

That is the problem in sand if you do not turn off the traction control you WILL get bogged, you need a bit of momentum and tyre spinning to keep you going.

Exactly right. I've never been bogged in sand although I've seen plenty of others with better rigs than mine do because too lazy to air down.

Don't forget I've only got a 120, no multi terrain select. I'm also talking about beach driving. Different story if travelling on roads/tracks with some sandy patches here and there.

                        Cheers
