I live in the hills but work at Blacktown. I reckon there is at least half a dozen decent mechanics that would do it for half the price of that dealership. Ring around. I'd offer to do it for you for a case or 2 but I'm flat out holidaying at the moment. It ain't hard but if your not mechanically minded its best let someone else do it

Wow, let's all cool down a little, we've all suddenly assumed this guy is getting ripped off and the dealer is full of BS.
Ever thought whoever did the pre purchase inspection couldn't be arsed pulling wheels off and properly measuring pads and just wrote 70% in the boxes??
Other thing is the OP has said he doesn't know a lot about cars, are you getting new rotors in this price too? It is possible it needs new rotors at this mileage if it's an around town heavy braking car........
Not saying you couldn't get the job done cheaper, I know I could do pads and rotors all around for less than that, but we all know we pay for the dealer "previledge"
What did they actually want to do for the $1200?Silver 150 Facelift

I just checked and I paid $389.00 supply only for a pair of DBA slotted rotors and Bendix 4WD pads for the front of my 120 and fitted them myself in around 1.5 - 2.0 hours. The equivalent for the rears would be slightly cheaper one would think. So that is now around $750.00 plus throw in some margin on parts and maybe he was quoted new fluid add some labour and whamo $1200.00.
Of course it might be different and is just pads then he is being bent over.

Front RDA drilled and slotted rotors with bendix 4wd pads - $273
Rear RDA drilled and slotted rotors with bendix 4wd pads - $283
1 litre of brake fluid to flush system - $25
1 metre of hose to drain brake fluid - $2
1 jar of high temp silicone grease for caliper pins - $35
1 can of brake cleaner - $7
Already had the the tools i needed to do the job, but i put the $600 i had saved towards buying an air compressor and impact wrench. I had already watched dozens of videos on youtube about how to change pads and rotors, and read the how-to guides on this forum. Pretty straight forward.

But they didn't mention any word about rotors in the quote. They told me to change all 8 pads (4 front and 4 rear) and the cost $1200 for 8 pads and fitting charge. when I went to collect the car ysdy I have asked what was the break pad size in mm and they told that different mechanics have different opinions about the size and replacement...!!!
I have changed the break fluids in the last service as well.
For all, the dealer is Lander Toyota Blacktown. I am fed up with their service every time they will charge around $650 by saying something even it is a big or small service.. Since the car is not under warranty period I am thinking of doing service in some good mechanic's place from now on-wards. (I am worried about the resale value though..that's the only reason I am doing service with dealers)
It will be great anyone can advise a good mechanic does servicing in decent price.

They should be nailed for extortion on quotes like this....
The more electronic crap that car manufacturers put on cars now days, the harder it makes it for independent mechanics who don't have the correct scan tools to diagnose issues.
If the government don't step in and force the Local manufacturers to release their diagnostic software to the public like they did in the US, its going to give us very little choice but to go to a dealer to have issues fixed.
......and once that happens, they can name their price.....

I don't think that is an issue, most Prados in the second hand car market are out of warranty, and they have been serviced at non-dealer mechanics.
Toyota dealerships in general don't have a great reputation for dealing with cars, just too many stuff ups and way over priced, so personally, I don't consider a car that has been serviced by Toyota to be an important selling point!

Yes 4 pads including labour . I know the mechanic pretty well so I might be getting a good price on his labour, but I'm pretty sure you can buy the pads for $70 odd at Supercheap. He said its a pretty easy job and I could probably have a go myself next time.White 2008 Toyota Prado 120GXL - see here: http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread.php?33659-Spike-s-120GXL-Build-Up

Hey,
Yep, sounds about right to me. I mentioned $350 for front and rear in post #12. Sounds like you found a decent mechanic spike!

Lalsyd, I'm to pass his details on in PM if you're interested, although we are a fair drive from Blacktown! Probably better to find someone a bit closer to home.....White 2008 Toyota Prado 120GXL - see here: http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread.php?33659-Spike-s-120GXL-Build-Up
