  • Toyota to fit brake over-ride to new cars

Seeing that it's not likely to affect 120's or 90/95's, thought this would be the most appropriate location for this post.

Reported in the courier mail today that a new brake overide system is to be fitted to all new vehicles which will cut engine power when the accelerator and brake pedal are depressed at the same time.

I suppose that riding the brake pedal after a water crossing to dry them out will become a thing of the past.

According to the paper, 30 deaths have been linked to faulty accelerators in the US and this is in response to that (and obviously Toyota getting sued for those deaths).

So it won't be a recall? Just all new cars?

Brake throttle modulation on controlled down hill decents will be a thing of the past as well, not sure how yau go safely driving on steep hills in an auto if you can't do this.

      Cheers Andrew

I suppose the lazy hill start will also be a thing of the past.

This car is just 12 anxiety continued so allowance for burden is a bit of a problem. As for leg space, the auto blazon Yaris has a bit added of that compared to the added two physique styles. The acme of the car is not a botheration because there is able allowance for the cartage to sit cocked after hitting their active in the ceiling.

I hate it when that happens.

                  Folks

The 150 has Down Hill Ascent control and Hill Start Assist so this shouldn't be an issue, as for drying brakes just put in low range 1st and you will be able to dawdle along to dry the brakes.

See ya on the tracks, Richo.

Interesting. 4wd Victoria advocate to drive through the brakes on steep descent (ie, you put left foot on brake and accelerate with right foot). The idea is to keep the wheels turning to maintain traction so they don't lock up and you end up in a skid with no traction. This is the approved way to handle steep descents in an auto (as opposed to feathering the brakes on descent). If the engine power is cut, there goes that theory.

Similar to Richo, just drive slowly along and gently apply the brakes, doesn't take long to heat up and dry out. Used to do the same with the manual 80 series, don't need to drive down a hill to do it.

                      Yowie.
