  • Pulling up to stop

Picked up the new GXL turbo diesel (auto) last Saturday.

It has been great but noticed when pulling up to a stop you get that feeling that it won't pull up in time. Has anyone experienced this? I am not applying that much pressure to the brake pedal, just trying to take it easy for the first 1000km as per the manual.

    Note - i have upgraded from a year 2000 3L diesel Hilux

    Re: Pulling up to stop

I have a Petrol GXL and have had to stop very quickly (roo!), and although around town under normal breaking it does have that feeling, when it counts it seems to pull up just fine

After 2000km of driving the auto diesel I completely agree. I had a guy with work driving behind me and he said - it's like you keep overshooting the stop signs. It does not a little to stop - however maybe deceptive with the super soft suspension and the nose diving under brakes. Anyway I'm still getting used to it.

        Re: Pulling up to stop

I have noted that the brakes do give an odd feeling. 150 series, GXL, diesel auto. The nose will dive a lot and I suspect that the soft bushes allow a lot of rearward movement of the front wheels under braking. The car will stop but does seem to do much of the stopping in the last few feet. This isn’t good for the heart rate. If you hit them hard the initial bite will throw you through the screen.

One thing I have noticed is that in a panic stop the brake force is uneven across the back axle. The left rear locks and the car flicks sideways.
I am contemplating after market pads but need to do some research first.

My big issues are a loud buzz in the dash caused by the air intake and an auto-trans that will change up as you accelerate departing an intersection.
