    G'day,
When I tried to move out of my garage today after starting the engine I could not get the transmission to move out of "park". After trying a number of times finally moved to "reverse" and away I went.
Later the vehicle did the same thing when on a vehicle ferry (very embarrising), and again when I gave the transmission leaver a big pull I got into drive and off the ferry.
Vehice is a 120, 2004 auto model with 153km on the clock. In late Nov. had transmission serviced at Toyota recommended auto specialist, report "all good". Had serviced because I tow 2.5t caravan despite manual saying no services necessary to trans. as is sealed for life.
One additional piece of info is since trans. service very difficult to get to shift from drive to 4 or lower on the move whereas was easy prior to service to use lower gear if decending steep hill.
Being between Christmas and New Year wondering what to do and Trans Specialist not available (maybe just leave in garage).
    Any advice welcome, thank you.

my 120 did this a couple of weeks ago when i hooked a mates boat up . you can get around it by pressing the shift lock button . at the same time the dashboard came up with the warning that my traction and stability control was out . my car has previously had a problem with the trailer plug . sometimes you get a short due to mud , water , dust , rust . my car was fine after i got rid of the trailer and replaced the fuse for the brake lights , but i will soon replace the trailer plug . it might sound weird but check your wiring for a short . the blown fuse was caused by some sort of short circuit with the trailer coupling which stopped me from selecting drive without pressing the shift button .

I was starting to worry when I read your thread title but relax when you mentioned it was a 2004 120. Why is it posted in this section?
