  • Drivetrain and Park on a steep hill

Hi, just wondering, is it advisable to set the vehicle to Park, on a steep hill? (to go outside and check the status of the vehicle) Initial reading reveals that it may damage the cogs, gear etc that locks the transmission from rotating. If this is the case, has anyone suffer this fate?

    Cheers!!

I'm parked on a steep driveway often and I usually firmly put handbrake on ensuring it has taken hold and then put into Park, thus ensuring there is no strain on the tranny...

      My parking habit is
      Shift into Neutral gear
      Engage handbrake
      Release brake pedal
      Shift into park

Yep, this ensures that the tranny doesn't roll back or forward against the park pin, which wil make it harder to pull out of park. Definitely the way to go if parking on a hill.
Pretty sure that the chance of doing any damage to the park pawl would be minimal, that's what it is designed to do!
