Loss of top gear in auto

While travelling to townsville yesterday we were sitting at a bit of road works in neutral, go slow sign spun around and off we went . Once up to the speed limit we noticed that the trans didn't shift into fifth. I tried to put it into sports mode and change to fifth but nothing. Stopped the vehicle and restarted and back to normal. WTF!
Coming back today same thing but the wife left it in drive while we waited and it again did it, stopped turned it off and then everything back to normal . It feels like it is still in sports mode , maybe a switch in the shifter?
No fault codes or lights on the dash.
Has anyone had this?

Did you have your foot on the throttle?

No, at both time of issue.
Shift are fine just no top cog even when restarted no clunking on gear changes

Did you try disconnecting the chip? Not sure how it might be related, but since it is a new addition maybe it is playing silly buggers with the auto ECU. Seems strange that you didn't see anything on the scan gauge either.

No I haven't tried that yet. Has not played up again around town . See how it goes on Saturaday we have a big trip.

Well it did it again on the way to Brisbane. Dropped top gear when in sports mode and same again wouldn't go back into full auto.
Any ideas anyone??
