    At 20 bucks delivered from England it is worth a try - especially given the amount of disassembly involved in a normal boot replacement (these things are half hour jobbies by the look of it.)

    I'm not normally one for short cuts but this is huge and with minimal loss if it doesn't work out...

    Anyone? Roo?

    What a great option to have on your emergency repair kit... Could've used one of those on my last trip to Bellthorpe!

      Definitely beats gladwrap and duct tape.

        SO there you are!! I would normally not stuff around & would just get on with doing it the proper way (I actually have the boot already because I bought a pair when an outer went on the 120 - maybe they're the same), but I noticed the damage while I was changing to road wheels to pack the bush wheels into a seacon which was already 3/4 packed and most of my tools (notably the big-ass socket for the driveshaft nut) were behind a lot of other stuff. Since my guts were threatening to give me a rhs inguinal hernia (to match the other side) I opted leave everything in there and try one of these splitties.

        Looks too trick, quick and easy so I'll give it a go & give an update on the install. And of course if it decides to go the way of my lower stomach muscles I'll let y'all know.

        150 has just over 30k and is showing no signs, but this car is benefitting from the lessons I learnt from the first 2... nice & soft, light and gentle(r) driving. Its destined now to be a city truck so I'd better get a bullbar & jack it up I spose.

          Snookered. Too smart Toyota.
          Sticky boot will probably work on an outer CV but not the inner. The shape of the shaft is not round so it needs the specific Toyota design. All went well til I cut the oldie off and then oh oh....
          I was able to place the new boot on the shaft prior to cutting the old one off.


          Gluing in stages as per the instructions..


          Glued completely... waiting half an hour...


          Old boot shape is not conducive with Stickyboot's roundness.


          Like I said could still be carried as a spare for the outer but not suitable for inner CV joint. Bugger. Now which Toyota spares shop is open on Sunday again?

              And finally... https://www.toyota.com.au/owners/par...plit-boot-kits is available for the 150!!

              Silastic is looking okay but I will pack one of these in any case. Ooops should have asked Mr T first.

                PS this from the Stickyboot manufacturer:
                There is actually a fitting method that some garages are using that enables a sticky or stretchy boot to be used with a tri-lobe joint.

                They are cutting the tri-lobe collar of the boot off so that it remains intact then removing the old boot.
                Once this has been done they then fit the sticky or stretch boot as normal with the boot sitting on the tri-lobe collar that was left on the shaft.
                The clamp in the kit holds both of the boot and collar firmly on place.

                This method works extremely well.
                Unfortunately I had already cut my old boot off when I understood the odd shape thing but otherwise this is a good cheap system that allows use of a single Stickyboot to cover failure of either side. I'll be carrying one as a spare from now on.

                  Aargh. Toyota do not yet make a split boot for the inner. Now where is that bigarse socket again???
