G'day.
Toyota call it a 'strainer'. It's the same sort of set up as most other trannies , ie; it's also the pick up. As the the trans fluid is supposed to last the life of the vehicle Toyota says there's no need to replace it so that's why dealer says there aint one, he prolly doesn't know.
Not sure of price.2003 V6 GXL. BFG's, Bossauto Bullbar, Tigerz11 winch, uhf.

Hi. Is that strainer visible when the sump cover is off?? because I have asked for a oil change but they just do a drop and fill usually .I do a fair bit of towing and the trans seems to be always the weakest part (Heat) .I have an external K&N filter in the out line before the radiator so I'll change that as well . I have asked for a price on a full flush but the cost is pretty high (oil)$300.00 anyway !! Cheers Foxy

I keep telling the service department, when I visit for a service, that the Prado has been towing recently, and they tell me after the service that the ATF looks O.K. Prado just over 3 years old now.
Not a lot of towing, but have been to S.A., Vic a few times, and N.S.W. a few more times than that.

Hi Jss, Yep I can understand that but if something goes haywire and then what happens to the warranty . No one wants to pay more than they have to but to me prevention is better than cure . Wooley, I'm with you on changing every 30K, I did a change at 20K but now I'm at 40K so to me it is due so I guess if you do a change ever 30K a flush could almost be pointless .Cheers foxy

As far as warranty goes if a licenced mechanic does the job then it's still under warranty. Besides I've done the research and every mechanic I've spoken to on the coast recommends the same place to get an automatic worked on "Kawana Autos".
Cheers

jss. Mate, sorry, Yep I misunderstood and I can see your point about who do you trust to do the right thing. The trouble is we have to trust some one at the end of the day to do the right thing. I think I'll be doing mine every 30K because if the trans lets go well that's an even bigger cost .Cheers Foxy
