Center diff locked, won't release...?

    Well, started the Prado in the garage, forward, reverse, high range, low range, pressed the diff button several times and it either flashed or stayed on, so reversed it out of the garage and turned to head down the driveway a bit to disconnect the battery, and there was a 'clunk' and the diff light turned off.

    Anyone have any idea about what caused the problem in the first place?

    59,000 on the clock and no major service yet.

      It is called diff wind up centre diff locked on hard services. The bang is it letting go.

        Thanks Rob. Thought it might be wind up, as it was slightly harder to turn until it popped out. Don't remember touching the diff lock switch to activate it in the first place.
