  • How to check auto transmission oil level?

    Hi all,

Is there anyone who knows how to check the automatic gearbox oil level? I did some water crossing recently, but I can't find where is the dipstick of gearbox. It is usually a pink head stick somewhere beside the engine oil dipstick. My prado is 2017 one, with 6sp auto transmission.

    Have a great day guys!

    Cheers,
    Joe

They cannot be checked with a dip stick as they don't have one mate. There's bungs on the side and bottom to drain it and top it up.

the below link is for a auto 5 speed from an fj cruiser - which I believe is the same auto that is in the prado - up until the year they changed to a 6 speed auto. '

I assume the way you check the auto level for a 5 speed, would be very similar to how you check a 6 speed.

is there an easy way to make sure - "The fluid temperature must be between 46°C (115°F) and 56°C (130°F) to check the fluid level."?

Buy a scan gauge. It’s the only way to be real sure.
I have used a meat probe style thermometer on the steel pan to compare and they will give you a ball park figure.
