  • Best transmission cooler

    G'day all,

Looking for advise on the best trans coolers for a 2.8l Prado. Doing a bit of online research there seems to be a few options, with the Kaon starting at about $250, and most of the other around the $500 mark. I'm not sure about the Kaon stainless steel brackets bolting up to an alloy cooler, and I've read somewhere that the 2 piece brackets aren't real good over corrugations. I live in a remote community and drive a lot of very badly corrugated and washed out roads, so whatever I buy needs to be tough.

After opinions, stories, experiences with what people have or are using.

    Cheers
    Hugsie

I've just got home from a two-week 3000+ km towing trip over some some pretty rough roads. All good, with consistantly lower ATF temperatures.

Have a read here of my solution to the potential electrolytic corrosion problem when used on remote, salty roads.

This is the one I use:
      https://automatictransmission.com.au...-6-speed-auto/

While my mate has the same car using the Kaon's.

To be really, really honest, we can't see there is a whole lot of difference in terms of performance.

I just come back from Simpson desert, we have done road trip thru QLD->NSW->SA->NT->QLD and I never have any problem. My mate does a lot of Fraser island trip an has no problem so far.

Mine one using the PWR's cooler while my mate's using some other brand but also Aussie made.

I am just a sucker for PWR product so I went with the more expensive option for no real technical reason behind it. But if I am tight on budget, I will go Kaon without any problem.
