  • Prado won't engage 4L and won't engage centre diff lock either

Hi Guys, I have a 2014 150 Series GXL prado. The prado has an issue where its not able to engage 4L or centre Diff lock. Toyota seems to think I need to change the actuator but they are not convinced that's the problem and onto of that quoted me $4500 to do the job they are not sure will fix the issue. I am not convinced its a mechanical issue because when you hit the switch to go from 4H to 4L nothing happens, no noise or anything, its like the switch is not even plugged in, the same with the centre diff lock switch. I am thinking its electrical because if it was a mechanical issue I should be able to hear it at least trying to engage. My ABS is also not working and sometimes my cruise control playes up. I have looked at fuses and relays but can't find the right one. I need help please. The prado drives fine apart from these issues, being constantly in 4H is for normal town driving anyway.

Have you plugged a code reader into scan for codes?

Typical for transfer case actuators that aren't used much to go on the blink. Make sure all the plugs are clean, and there is no corrosion. Some people have had to pull the actuator out, clean it, and ensure the switch and wiring are getting power.

Maybe check the ABS wheel speed sensor. They are usually a linked system, atrac usually relies on the abs sensor to modulate the traction control. If it senses an error on the abs sensor, it might not let you engage 4wd centre diff lock or any other 4wd related settings.

Most newer generation obd2 readers have features to test individual sensors.

JDBender , how did you go here? What was the result? I have the exact same problem and have recieved the exact same quote for Toyota. I've tried pulling the actuator apart and putting together. I can go into 4L but I can't engage the centre diff lock
