    Hi folks,
    can someone confirm the model of this transfer case?
    I think Prado but 120 or 150?
    1kd 3.0ltr engine

    ​​​​​​​is it viable to change the input shaft on this box?
    ​​​​​​​I am told nobody works on Prado transfer boxes & you "just get a new one"

    If its from a Prado its a 120 as it has the manual shifter position at the top (I believe the 150s were all electronically controlled).

    Check the online photos from these 120 part numbers as they seem to match and according to the parts catalogues are used on both the Petrol V6 and Diesel 1KD models in Aust.
    • 361006D170 - GRJ120..ATM..ARL DIFFERENTIAL LOCK-WITHOUT&ABS-W(ABS& VSC & ACTIVE TRACTION CONTROL) - .
    • 361006D240 - GRJ12#..ATM..(ARL,GCC,GEN)
    The 361006D170 is most likely one from the pics due to the Electronic Diff Lock control unit bolted to the side (This should be the Toyota VF4BM model if you want to check for additional info/manuals etc and is used on other Toyota models elsewhere)

    Sorry, can't help you on the change of input shaft question. .

      Hiace 5 spd box

      ​​​​​​​TFR shown above
      ​​​​​​​Hiace Japan rear diff centre
      ​​​​​​​Hiace Japan front diff assy

      ​​​​​​​they build in AWD & 4WD H+L range
      ​​​​​​​this one is the full 4WD H+Lwith ABS traction control.
      ​​​​​​​About 0 wheel articulation but the traction + locking diff makes up for it to some degree....

        OK so I believe this TFR to be 6100- 60A00 but am told I can also use a 361006D401 from the later model- as far as I can tell they are interchangeable. The later one shows as being used in both J120 & J150 Prado
        Not sure if this is any use to anybody here

          Did you find markings on the unit to give you that part number or was it from another source?

          The only thing that doesn't gel is the round structure on the casting seen at the top in pic 3 and bottom left in pic 4 that I mistakenly thought was the Hi/Lo range shifter input port. It doesn't show up on any of the Prado transfer cases with those part numbers so what is it?

            Hey, sorry 4 the delay!- didn't find this till just now.

            That round thing is the input sleeve which was our problem. - just sitting on top.

            After getting to the bottom this it was on the gearbox side where the problem arose. There is a sleeve in front of this in our case which allowed the drive sleeve on the transfer to slide forward & hence loss of drive.

            This is/was a build screwup by BUS4X4 where they had the dimensions incorrect in their mods- now fixed & new TFR installed. They're not saying that of course but it's clear as daylight when you dismantle it all.

            The sleeve on this unit has since been locked in place & everything appears to be OK. We have replaced the unit & this one on ebay if anybody is interested- I think it would be fine fir normal use but I wouldn't tow anything big with it in case it failed.
            Bus4x4 assures me that is the part number- 361006D401 & that's what it is as far as I can tell.

            I'll put a note on the ebay page if anybody is keen.
