  • Gearbox & transfer case breathers (2016 manual gearbox)

    Hi to all.

I have read the previous posts & looked at the photos re the gearbox & trans case breathers but I cannot find where mine are ???

I can find them on the G.B. & Trans case & follow them forward to the bell housing where they disappear but seem to run up to the top centre of the firewall.

Looking in from the engine bay in this location there is no sign of the breather pipes or caps as per the front & rear diffs.

Both the front & rear diffs have been extended so far without too much fuss.

We are leaving for the Vic high country in a week & I hope to be able to find them & extend if possible.

    Any ideas appreciated.

    Regards, Russell .............

Yep. Up fairly high behind centre of the motor. There is thread on here about where to find and extend them. Turn wheels hard left and you can sort of get access from rhs wheel well.

      Hi 404pug.

Thanks , I will have a look today. I have read a few threads re location but have yet to find them. I will try the turn the wheel trick.

I had thought about dropping a string or wire down from the engine bay/firewall area & attaching to where I can see the hoses, then pull it back up to locate it.

Clips or attachments would be the downfall of this idea & it might not slide easily on the hoses ???

      Hoping for a positive outcome.

        Hi 404pug.

I just had another look & I can see them heading up on the bellhousing through the passengers side wheel well, there is the 3 as previous threads say, 1 small 2 larger.

But looking in from the engine bay/top there are too many things in the way to find them ???

I will take the wheel off later this morning to get a better look.

Mine is a 2.8 so has a DPF & possibly other pipes & hoses that are hiding what I am looking for.

I will keep looking & let you know how I get on if I have the time.

        Regards, Russell ...............

Dpf etc doesn't interfere. You need long skinny arms.!

            Hi 404pug.

            FOUND THEM AT LAST !!!!!!!!

On my vehicle I removed the passengers side wheel & hiding on the top of the bell housing behind the engine & above the starter motor.

It is probably a reasonable spot to stay dry in general water crossings & I plan to tarp up the front if the depth is more than 1/2 a metre or so.

I'm also still packing so don't have the time to run the extensions. 2 days till departure. : ) : )

Thanks for your guidance & knowledge.

            Regards, Russell .................
