How did you pop the lens on that one?

For the 2 roof lens in the middle and rear there are 2 small slots on one egde of the lens, stick the screwdriver in the slot and gently lever down and then do the same on the other slot, the lens will pop off.

Got it....thanks Derek! What a pain that was but I probably should not do this time of night either.

Done and many thanks to all. Love the white as opposed to warm colour cast.

Just so you know guys, theledlad has now got a kit with the vanity lights under the sun visors included as well. I've got a kit being sent out and he's informed me he's just listed it on his website.

How have those who fitted the LEDLAD kit found the LED replacements to behave as the vehicle gradually dims the lights after closing the doors? Do they smoothly and evenly (i.e. all lamps at a similar rate) dim all the way to nothing as the factory incandescents do, or do they suddenly extinguish whilst still relatively bright? Asking as some LEDs don't dim very well just by reducing the applied voltage.

Just noticed my vehicle has 2 x wedge bulbs (for left & right seats, within the same fitting) in the 2nd & 3rd row seat positions. Am guessing that 2 x wedge LED replacements will be nowhere near as bright as the LED pad? I doubt I would fit a pad in each side though (& if I fit only one then one of the local switches will do nothing). Can anyone give me approximate dimensions of the pad?

          David.

The dimensions of the 48 led pad are 58mm x 39mm. I did notice that he had other size panels on his web site, so I guess a smaller panel could be squeezed in somewhere else.

My lights do dim as they extinguish.

Yes the wedges are no where near as bright as the led panels. I still prefer them over the standard bulbs.

Thanks SuperDavid. I might ask the LEDLAD about the sizes of the smaller pads. Maybe I can fit a 24 LED in each side for the 2nd & third row seat lamps, so still get the light output of the 48 led pad but maintain the factory independent switching for left & right seats.

The incandescent wedges are somewhat directional. Has anyone found that even though the LEDs are brighter, the light may not be where it's needed as I imagine the directional properties are lost with the LED pad.

              David.

Mine finally arrived today - a bit slow considering they are coming from SA - nevertheless there was a public holiday Monday to contend with. Anyway, all fitted and love the look.

Not sure I understand what you are getting at here - you mean put smaller pads in the door trim lights?

The incandescent wedges are 360 degree....so are the LEDs (well close to anyway) so I don't think light is any less "directional". I think to be honest, the T10 wedges LEDs just don't quite match the same lumens as the incandescent. But it wouldn't be far behind I reckon - to be honest the light output doesn't seem too different from normal.

Definitely kicks ass in the back!

                  Shodown,

No, not talking about the door trim lights. In the Kakadu there is a single lamp shade assembly in the centre of the ceiling above the 2nd row seats containing two wedge bulbs, The two bulbs are somewhat directional, pointing onto the L & R seating positions and have separate switches, similar to the map lights at the front. Same for the above the 3rd row seats.

I don't question that the LED wedges have similar directional properties to the incandescent wedges, but I was asking if replacing the wedges with pads results in loss of the directional properties. I guess even if it does, it shouldn't matter in the 2nd & 3rd row as they will not be distracting the driver anyhow. I don't want to just replace all of these factory wedges with LED wedges as I feared exactly what you have stated (lumens from LED wedge is actually less than incandescent wedge) - hence my desire to attempt to fit 2 x smaller pads in both the 2nd row assembly and 3rd row assembly so as to achieve more lumens yet maintain the concept of being able to separately switch the L & R sides.

I've got the dimensions of all the pads from the LEDLAD now so will remove the shades and do some measuring on the weekend.

                  David.

Aaaah, gotcha now. You cant go past the LED pads, they give off plenty of light.

As for the T10's, they are good enough for the door lights / vanity mirror lights (cos lets face it, who cares about those) but I'd be happier if they were a little brighter on the two map lights.

I might try experimenting with something more powerful or directional like this in future: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/T10-W5W-6...70092f4&_uhb=1

But they will only work well for the map lights, not doors / vanity.

Why wouldn't they? Map lights, vanity and door lights are all T10 wedge, they all use the same LED wedge replacement.

Crack open the covers and see for yourself - the map light globes are mounted so the top of the globe point down into the cabin whereas the vanity and door globes are mounted side on.

I am not saying you wouldn't get any light, I am saying the directional globe (pointing out the top) it would just be more effective on the map lights.

                            Hey Andrew

Are you selling these LEDs? Would like to try some in my map lights (I actually use real maps) and the LEDLAD Leds look ok but wouldn't want to try and read a map with them

                              Hi Wayne,
No I don't. Maybe I should Those pics are off ebay listings
I just get them off ebay and try them out. At $1 each, it's no big loss. Just keep going until you find something that suits.

As a point of reference (I know 120 is different to 150 lights) I am now very happy with the light output from 48 SMD 5050 LED panels in the centre dome and cargo area. For the 2 map lights, I have 15 SMD 5050 LED panels.

I haven't found warm white versions but of the ones I have received, 1 out of each order is of a slightly different colour. It is just slightly warmer which would be better for reading maps.

Fitted mine up last night, they look brilliant. Went for the panel in the rear over the festoon type, found the festoon a really tight fit, to the point where it was starting to bend just to get it in.

Agree with the map lights, but compared to the old wedges its still ten times better, I have no trouble reading things around the console area now. If there were directional ones included the kit would be perfect.
