  • ARB dual battery setup

    Hi all,

Here are some photos of my ARB second battery installation

The battery is a D34 Optima Yellow, on a ARB tray, mounted on the driver side spot:

Isolation/charging is done via a REDARC BCDC1220, mounted on the side:

They also run the cable to the back (6mm with 15A fuse). You can see the inline fuse in the photo:

The cable is run across the engine bay:

Here is the original battery with the connections and 20A circuit breaker:

I had them terminated the cable on a Hella and Cig lighter sockets at the rear (Like what Derek from ABR did):

The setup seems to work ok, powering an ARB 47L fridge at the back. The fridge connection via the Hella socket is a bit loose, not sure if this is because of the side-way connection or I just have a loose socket.

I actually bought a REDARC SBI isolator and was going to do the installation myself, but after looking at the cost of all bits and pieces, potential electrical warranty/insurance issue (I was concerned with shorts caused by the wiring), and timing to get it done before my trip, I took the easy way out and got ARB to do it!

When I was there the ARB guy told me there was another Prado 150 there for second battery installation as well, except that the owner provided his own battery (another D34). I didn't know that was possible. The cost of the D34 from ARB was $395 + GST, BCDC1120 was $450 + GST.

    Re: ARB dual battery setup

I had the same install done today except I also had a BAINTECH Flush Mount Single - DC 12 Volt LCD Meter added so I can keep and eye on the battery. Hopefully get to test it over easter up at Canarvon Gorge

      ARB dual battery setup

The meter is a good idea, I am thinking about adding one as well. A few times the fuse blew in my setup and I didn't get any warning until much later.
Is your meter wired before or after the fuse, ie can you tell if the fuse blows?

The meter is installed after the fuse so all it's telling me the battery voltage at the outlet
