  • Short extension lead to tap for high beam

I am looking at wiring up my new spotties and was thinking of using a short extension between the high beam plug and socket on the lamp to tap off the high beam 12v for the driving light relay.
I have no problem cutting and soldering the original lead, just wanted to keep the original wiring intact.
Has anyone tried this or done something different successfully ?
I have been trying to find a H3 plug/socket to do this, but all the kits on Ebay seem to have full looms and globes, etc.

    cheers

I appreciate that not everyone reads every post but 80 odd people have read this post and no one has commented on how they tapped into the wiring loom to get the high beam feed to operate the relay running their spotlights .................

      Hi,

I simply tapped into the existing wiring and soldered & taped the join. If it's done neatly and securely then you wont have any issues down the track.

        As VXWesty said.

I just made two incisions in the insulation about 10mm apart, and with a sharp knife cut away the insulation between the two incisions. It will peel away and you will have a nice clean spot to lay down the new wire and solder appropriately and then tape it up nice and snug.
No need to cut the wire as such.

Its only the relay coil through the switch on the dash, you could use a "power thief" then if you ever removed the spotties it would just leave a nick in the wire.

Personally, I wouldn't ever use these type of connectors... they are unreliable at the best of times... .. Just my 2c though

              x2

Making an "extension" seems like a lot of effort for little gain. Just solder in a connection as decribed above.

Yep solder away and tape it up afterwards. Would have no impact on resale value at a later stage if that is what youb are looking for.
