  • HiD Spottie recommendations ?

Ive done a search but couldn't dig up much regarding HID Spotties and which ones may be better than others? I have been told that with good HiD lights on the Kaka that HiD spotties would be the go. Tjm quoted me on a pair or BritaX I think they were and told there a great allrounder but have seen alot of people use lightforce etc..

Can anyone shed some light on the subject...

you can go the way off fitting say rally 4000 then getting a hid aftermaket kit to fit as the kits vary in price say like around $50 ebay or $300 auto electrical shops and i think repco had a kit for about $150.
I had rally 4000 this way and were great noticed the differance going back to standard lights and cheaper this way to buying say predators or lightforce. lightforce use a differant globe then normal h1 i think so you will need to check this out if you want to try and use these.

Forget about doing the HID conversion in normal halogen lights, the reflectors are not made for HID and you will not get the best out of them (it is a compromise).
You are better off buying proper HID spotties. I'm running Narva 225 HID. These are awesome, turns night into day, and people who forget to turn off high beam, quickly turn them down when I turn on my spotties, at night people tend not to stay in the fast lane either when they get blasted by the spotties.
One thing you will have to remember with HID spotties, the light on the passenger side will need to be turned to the centre of the road slightly, as you will get flashback from street signs if it isn't adjusted properly.

If you don't already own a set of spotties that could be converted, imo just research hid specific lights and then get what you like. I already had a pair of IPF Extremes which i got converted. I figured i already had $400 worth of hardware that i would convert them. Pretty damn happy with the result If i was buying from scratch, i would have gone straight to hid models. And like croozza said, adjust to avoid flashback, it's blinding

I think you'll find all the majors IPF, Hella, Lightforce.... through to the Nite Stalkers all do an HID spottie. Budget, what size light will fit and how much use will they get are a few questions only you know the answer to Whatever you get though should impress you

Im using Lightforce 170 HID strikers on an ARB delux bar and fit perfect and are fairly well protected. They are the genuine lightforce HID and I was looking at doing the samething by getting a standard set and getting aftermarket HID kit. the only problem with aftermarket/ebay stuff is that a lot of these kits are not rated at what's stated.
Yes you will pay big dollars but the real deal is the best choice. I paid $850 with genuine harness and blue light cover/deflectors. (Thanks to the boys at Ashdowns) Retailed at just shy of $1600 just for HID's. Being on a Kakadu with HID driving lights standard and blue covers give an unbelievable crystal clear white light. But I also changed High Beam to phillips crystal clear vision due to the yellowish shadowing. Am looking into High beam HID ugrade though. All in all HID genuine and blue tinted covers are the best vision enhancments. I do recall reading a thred about to big a diameter can cause warmer to hot engine temps due to insuffecent airflow to radiator & condenser in hot Summer evenings. So maybe another thing to consider!!
2009 Prado Kakadu 3.0L Turbo Diesel, ARB Deluxe winch bar, Safari snorkel, Chip It Performance Module, EGT Controller, Throttle Controller, Manta 3" SS exhaust System, Pro-Vent oil Catch can, Lightforce 170mm Strikers 75w HID, Waeco 50L DZ fridge, GME TX3540 & AE4705, dual battery, Many options & upgrades to come...

A certain Australian "4WD" magazine that offers "Action", did a review on Driving Lights in Issue #161, on sale 16th March 2011, which might give you some assistance. I have a few random issues, but needed to look at the local Municipal library to source this review. Very thorough, and helpful, although I suspect that anything HID should blow our non-HID socks-off? Good luck.

The current newsstand issue might be #170?
