I have just read through this thread and was horrified at the thought of using the transmission this way. I have been working with transmissions for the past 10 years in the mining industry and pulled apart my share of automotive autos... Have you guys actually seen how small the shafts are in there!!! Seriously, I have seen transmissions that weigh 12T almost liquified inside from what is commonly referred to a 'plugging' where torque is applied against the direction of rotation beyond design limits. Shafts are generally sized according to the torque they are delivering and the worst thing you can do is apply all of that torque with the whole drivetrain spinning in the opposite direction. The bottom line is automotive transmissions are not design for 'plugging'... Do it at your peril.
