  • Door Handle Lock/Unlock Sensor working intermittently

    Guys...

Just wondering if anyone has had issues with the locking/unlocking of their Prados via the Front RHS & LHS Doors. Sometimes when we go to touch the handles to lock/unlock the car, it fails to work. We have to resort to using the little remote control unit. I know dirt, etc may play a factor, but when there's no dirt involved, it still plays up sometimes... no real pattern

anyone else experiencing this problem ?

How old is the battery in the remote and does it happen with both remotes?

Do you have the key next to your phone?

I find sometimes if I have the key and my phone in the same pocket in my handbag the key won't work.

My experience is the same as Wooleys. Mine hasn't worked a couple of times and on all occasions I had my key and phone in the same pocket.

              How old is the car?

The manual says the batteries only last 1-2 years. I know my car seems to be getting less reliable when it comes to unlocking the doors etc. I plan to replace the batteries in the key pad in a little while, just to be safe.

I don't totally trust the smart start/entry system, especially when in remote areas!

              cheers

Yeah, the car is a Nov'10 build, so it's not that old, so I don't believe it should be the ley battery.... I didn't think about the phone's proximity, so I will take more notice next time even though I think there's been a few occasions where I don't think I've had the phone on me where it's happened..... the cars going in for a service next week, so I'll mention it then too

                cheers

I have found this, but only for the locking. I believe it is caused by your hands being to clean and dry, so the car does not pick up the electrical signal via your finger.

The next time it won't work, try touching your finger to your tong just to put the slightest moister on your finger and see if that works. It fixes the problem every time for me.

                    Cheers for that.....

I think the mobile phone too close might be an issue, but it never use to be a problem when we got the car new..... I'll let toyota know at the next service in a couple of days....

It says in the manual not to put the key near phones or other electronic devices, my 150 is a Dec 09 build and both our fobs work fine but I always put mine in a separate pocket to me phone. Never had a problem with unlocking and we have done some very remote driving in it.

Biggest problem I have is when my 2 year old grandson finds the fob and decides it would be fun to hide it from G-Pa unlocking id difficult then

That is interesting, the wife would have the key and the phone in the same hand bag all of the time? How do u get around that one.

I have instructed my wife to put them in separate parts of her handbag, Hutch if were a sensative new age guy like me you would know that most handbags come with a separate pocket for mobiles and the key floats around in the bottom with "other stuff" Now go back to work!!
