  • Rear view mirror reversing camera

I am looking for a reversing camera setup to install on 150 GX. I don't want another GPS or in dash system so the rear view mirror based option seems attractive. This is also the natural place to look when reversing. Had a look at ARB out of the box in store but this doesn't give much of an idea of how they go 'live'. Anyone have the ARB model or a similar one? Any ideas on alternatives? Also, does the ARB or any other model allow viewing when not in reverse gear?

Just wondering which system you ended up with Ian? Did you go the ARB in the end?

It look like there system allows auto view when in reverse. Manual view to rear, switchable. Auxillery camera mounted anywhere you like (front most likely) and trailer Camera if wanted.

My Dodgy Options GPS reverse camera has finally died, given that's the only part that ever worked properly its time to throw that piece of junk in the bin where it belongs. Looking for a quality option not another cheap nasty piece of electrical junk to frustrate me, so hoping you can tell me good things about what you got in the end.

    Cheers Andrew

Just buy an OE head unit on eBay that supports a reverse cam, factory look and factory quality.

I did have a look at that, didn't see any just at the moment.

Also I like the idea of the forward facing camera and the trailer camera. Added to that; as I have full height drawers my interior rear view camera is pretty much useless now.

        Cheers Andrew

AJ, I have run the pioneer double din DVD player head unit with a cheap reverse camera off eBay on my work ute for a few years now and is great. Dad also has the same in his landcruiser and even he can work it out and likes it. It doesn't have GPS but everything is top quality on the head unit

Andrew we had rear mirror reversing cameras in the utes (canopy) but the screen size and image quality leave something to be desired. We fitted a double DIN Pioneer head unit, just stereo and DVD no navigation and a decent camera to the new one and it is streets ahead.

Yeah, it's just the camera fitted up to the pioneer head unit i have fitted. Just a cheap number plate mount one. The reverse signal is wired up through a 3 way switch so i can have it on, off or reverse operational. The mirror ones are crappy in my oppinion, I have seen a few in customers vehicles. I think supercheap even has the head unit on special at the moment, or it might of been autobarn
