5000K. If you find them too blue, which I don't, it should be a pretty simple matter to change the bulbs out to the lower Kelvin bulbs. Not sure how much they charge for replacements though.

The only negative I've found is when you switch back to low beam it's like somebody turned the sun off lol

      LOL! I can imagine.

Any pics of them lighting up the road?

To be honest, I don't even have my spot lights wired to a switch any more as they were doing SFA.

No I don't. I should go out and get some though, if I can find a quiet stretch of road.

I'll have to work on some better pics for you wooley, as these really do nothing to show what the lights are really like, but it'll have to wait until I can do a late night run where I can actually sit on a flat bit of road and take a few shots..

Although looking at the pics, some things do become apparent, stuff that is barely, or not even visible with the factory high beams becomes easy to see, the signpost on the left, the road sign down the road, the trees, even the dip in the road isn't really visible in the first pic.
If I had a wider angle lens for my camera you'd be able to see how much extra the sides of the road are lit up.

The 'ordinary' Lightforce 240 50w HID's were one of the best in the 4wd action comparison a while ago so can imagine what their 70w deliver.

I went a bit more down market and fitted Quattro Elite HID spread/spot combo from Power Vision a few days ago. These are the 70w 6,000k and the same physical size as the Lightforce Genesis 210. Cost around the $700ea mark. They were easy to fit (internal ballast like Lightforce) and adjust the vertical plane using an allen key. So far they have held their alignment but need to test on rougher roads. From cold start, there's around 5 to 10 sec before they are fully on, after that very little if any delay when switching them back on again.

Never having used HID's before and you read stories of how good they are; well after using a set tonight driving from Sydney to Wagga, I'm blown away with the improvement over my old IPF 900 xs halogens. There was that much light, I swear cows started heading towards the milking sheds!

It is my understanding that there is an exponentialy lesser gain going with higher wattage HID's.

ie: The gain of 35w hid over 100w halogen is considerable.
The gain of 50w hid over 35w hid is not that much.
I assume the gain of 70w hid over 50w hid would not be that much either. (assuming the advantage curve is the same as the 35w-50w analogy)

That is what I have been told anyway.

Anyone care to confirm or refute??

On another note.... I saw a set of 240 XGT's the other week which the owner had fitted 150w G6.35 lamps. The XGT's were thoroughly melted and were not repairable. Careful of the temps guys.
2008 Diesel Prado with extra stuff added. I drive it on the road and other places too.

                    That probably is the case.

However it is considerably cheaper to upgrade to factory fitted 70W HID than factory fitted 50W HID.

One major reason why I went with the genuine lightforce product. Glad I did, I had to have one reflector replaced under warranty as it was fading badly. Lightforce were really good to deal with, they organised to have the light picked up from my door and delivered it back once they had inspected and fixed.

That's strange that it is that way, the technology is really no different, manufacture would be the same, it's only really the operating current that's different. I'm going to end up running two combo covers on my lights, currently I only have a combo on the left light, it spreads the light well and still leaves a really good spot up the road, I think with two I'll get awesome coverage out the sides.

It's due to 70W being external ballast. It doesn't require the whole light to be pulled apart I believe.

I'll be running combo covers too. I have no need to see 10 miles down the road.

Does that mean you have to drill a hole in the housing??

I like the LF lights because they are waterproof. I have seen plenty of evidence of this over the years.

I believe so, They're meant to retain their waterproof-ness though, and still have a 3 year warranty so should show any problems in that time.

Can you confirm yours have a hole in the housing, DaveZ?
