• What happens when the battery goes flat in the Remote for starting the car?

While I was on holidays, I had the situation where I went to start the Prado & I put my foot on the brake, waiting for the green light to come on indicating that it's right to start.... but I when I did this one time in the middle of nowhere... NOTHING happened, no light, nothing..... I tried a few of times w/o any success. It then dawned on me as to what happens when the battery in these remote goes flat? Can u still start the car? What happens if the battery goes flat while you're in the middle of no where? Does anyone know?

Anyhow I left it for 5mins and tried again and all came good.... but it did leave me wondering what would happen if the battery did go flat in the remote and u couldn't start your vehicle?

Is it easy to replace the battery in these remotes and should u always carry around a spare battery in the glovebox just in case something did happen??
cheers..... Rob (macca)

The batteries don't like heat. If you leave it in the car, it might not work by the time you need it

Not as bad as losing the key fob... I got back to the car and only had the key attached to my key ring...

When you open car with the little key, the alarm goes off. And doesn't stop until you use the key fob.

There is also no way to start the vehicle sadly.

After 5 hours of searching the key fob was found, the alarm turned off and I could carry on. Haha.

Also, apparently Toyota can't just send you a key, they need the vehicle to make a key which means a tow truck.. An expensive excercise from out past White Cliffs.

On long trips, I take the spare fob with me and give it to the missus for safe keeping (?), she has not lost it yet!

I'd rather not say what I've done. But it means I never have to worry again

I can understand where you're coming from....After our outback experience, I longed for a more "basic" car. That is just the stuff that makes life a little easier like the following: Central Lock/Unlocking / Electric Windows and mirrors and that's about it. Give me an actual Key to insert to start the engine anyday over what u have in the 150's.... It 's seems the more smarter the car manufacturers become the more annoying things they come up with installing in the vehicle. You start to feel that they think everyone is a just dump driver who can't think for themselves as to whether they got the seatbelt on / All Doors closed / Engine off b4 opening the door and so on & so on..... I would much prefer just a light on the dash than an annoying beeping al the time.....

Not sure whether I will keep this car yet when the lease runs out but for now it good as it the missus car and I don't have to put up with the continual beeps etc....

When I get some time and the missus is not driving it so much, I'll have to get behind the instrument panel and do that mod to prevent all the beeps.... If that doesn't solve the problem, then I'll be looking at getting an older vehicle that doesn't have all this warning crap on it..... One thing is for sure, if all new cars from this point onwards all have these annoying beeps, etc, I'm not sure if I'll ever buy another new car again..... I think by putting all these fancy warnings in that we are just creating a driver that can't think for themselves..... Seen this sort of thing at work where there is so much documented processes that the workers just become like monkeys... monkey see monkey do.... and they don't stop and think outside the box and use their brains..... it's a shame that the society is going that way

well that's my rant for the day

Over time I may calm down and get use to the beeps, etc on the prado but at the moment I'm still annoyed from our holidays away and all the beeps that came from the car..... bloody annoying
cheers..... Rob (macca)

On my recent Madigans trip part of the minimum vehicle requirements was for every vehicle to carry at least one spare key, either on the outside of the car somewhere or in someone elses vehicle.

Gone are the days of a quick hotwire if you loose the key, or it get damaged or goes flat!

Cheers Andrew

That's the way new cars are being manufactured, electronics is the name of the game.

Heard of a 100 series that had a computer problem, which shut down the vehicle for 1 week in the outback, until a new module was flown in from the big smoke.
