  • Re-coding a Prado Smart Key

Just bought a late 2011 PRADO GX KDJ150R. It only came with 1 smart key.
It's the type with push button start and you need the transponder fob in your pocket to start it.

I bought an identical smart key of Gumflea for $200, thinking I'd save a bit over dealer prices.
Took it to local dealer for programming / coding but they told me it was already coded to another vehicle and it can't be changed to my car.

I queried this with the bloke I bought it off. He said it can be done, there is a "trick" to it and a dealer should be able to do it for me. Very confusing.

Anyone know how/where I can get it re-programmed? I'm in Gold Coast / Brisbane area.

    Thanks.

When I bought my 2010 GX it only came with one key. I bought a smart key off a dealer in Melb and had them re-program the old smart key to the new. I know you're in QLD however if you want to ask them what's possible give Airport Toyota a call. Good luck with it.

I lost my spare key sometime ago, I really hope is not mine you bought. I'm still searching for a replacement.

I tracked down a company that can reprogram a key, based on an existing working key. You can contact keyquip.com.au. The can do it for $110 onsite.
