Replacing Cigarette Socket - 150 GXL - Any tips?

Hey there,

Just wondering if anyone has had to replace their cigarette/12v socket in their centre console (150 GXL - next to the USB port) ?? - The plastic cover on mine is kaput and I want to replace it....Ive picked up the replacement hinged cover, but the Toyota techies simply said "you need to rip out the whole console to get under it"....Is there a more efficient means of extracting this without damaging the console ?? - Has anyone (1) had to replace theirs and if so do you have any tips ?

Appreciate your advice on this...I did search the forum but came up empty...

Well, they're right to a certain extent. The socket is infact held in place from behind and yes that means pulling out a fair bit of the centre console. To do so, will not damage the console at all. I've done it a handful on times on 150 but for the life of me I don't remember how (I have the dashboard of a hundred different cars floating around in my brain sorry!)but I'm sure someone will give you a guiding hand...

One thing I will tell you though, is to lay a cloth down over your shifter and trim before you put any parts down.

Thanks RanJ - Had a go at pulling the console apart...took my time and was surprised how easy it all just pulls apart then clips back together :-D anyways, 1 x new 12v socket in and a console back together....
