  • Dual Antenna from same CB?

    Hi All,

I'm looking at installing a GME TX3540 in the VX and looking at what antenna best suits

I do a combination of long drives on the flat stuff and a bit in the dunes

Is it possible to run both a 2.1bBi and 6.6dBi in parallel? Ideally I'd like a setup that does not require switch either by a physical switch or by using the GME quick disconnect on the base to change over

    Cheers

    Kayne

I think the short answer is no. There are switching options available, and as you mentioned changing the whips works. Your other option is running 2 UHF's.

    Cheers Andrew

I am looking at this as well, but one will need http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2-POSITIO...-/190688386130 to switch between the two.

You can mount both, but it requires the aerials to be mounted X distance apart. The switch though cumbersome looking, would be the best option.

Or just get like I did and get a Uniden AT870 6.5db Gain Antenna & Pactel 3db Gain Whip

Beware of some stuff on eBay. One of the items suggested is good for HF band only, not UHF CB.

Also try and avoid SO239/PL259 connectors for UHF. They are very lossy at this frequency, remembering that you only have 5 watts RF power coming out of the radio so don't loose most of it with crapy connectors and cheap coax before it even gets to the antenna.

Been a bit slow updating on this

In the end went with the GME AE4703W for 6.6 dBi gain and a AE4701W for the 2.1 dBi gain

Cost a little more than the others but ideal as I can use the same base and just use the whip I require, also keeps the wifey happy in the city as I can take it off and she doesn't have to stare at it!

Talking to a mate of mine last night. The NSW Police defected one of his service vehicles because the drivers vision was obstructed by a UHF antenna mounted on the drivers side of the bar. The defect was a 'yellowy' and he has 21 days to comply.

Hmm what about all those GPS units mounted to windscreens, fluffy dice, the list goes on.
150 Vx D4D, Deluxe Arb bar, winch, Hayman Reece Towbar, UBP, P3 Tekonsha, 'n stuff.
"When cooking on a camp fire it must be cool enough to cook on so it needs to burn down to coals, at least in parts. It is customary to drink beer while waiting for the fire to cool down.
I recommend starting with a very big fire"-Vince.
