  • 100 watt inverter

Has anyone re-wired the inverter to connect to an auxiliary battery rather than the starter? Are there any problems doing this?

what is the largest power draw appliance that people have used with their inverter?
What happens if you overload it?
The most that i have used it for is with the engel on freeze for 4 hours to albany.

I am thinking about testing it with a electric kettle - any ideas?

Ideas are endless on what you could plug into a 100W inverter. What will actually work is another thing!

For those who are not electrical minded, check how many watts the intended device is rated at and dont connect anything that is over the rating of your inverter.

Kettle is not a good idea. Kettles are usually between 800 & 2400 watts.

It's only really good for running your camp fridge (while driving), charging phones, tablets, small laptops, running small TVs or small lights etc.

I haven't done this, but I cant see why it wouldn't be possible.

It has been suggested to me that you could use the outlet to charge a 2nd battery in the rear of the car using an off the shelf 240V battery charger...Not sure if I trust this advice...

I had a customer blow the fuse for the inverter in the rear trying to iron a shirt because there was a black out at his house!!!!

Not quite sure why one would like to do that

The highest draw device I have is the laptop charger. I ended up getting a 600W one from Aldi that sorted it out.

Now i have a 12V charger for it instead. Its more efficient and draws less current.

Has anybody upgraded the factory inverter in their rig?

And any ideas where it is in a 155 (150 Shorty)?

                    Thanks

From what I can understand, you can replace the inverter if you can find one with a similar size foot print. It needs to fit behind the panel. The wiring is thin from the Inverter to the plug, but it can be upgraded to .75mm flex which would allow more current without issues. I will be doing this once I setup the dual battery set up and The inverter only works when the ignition is on. Screw that, I want it on when I want it on. Therefore, I'll have to bypass the ignition for the inverter and install a small switch somewhere at the back too.
