  • Splitting power to rear

    Hi all,
I've run 6mm2 dual core to the rear from the auxillary battery, and was intending to just connect for the Waeco fridge, but am now thinking why not have several outlets.

To do this do I need a 'distribution panel' like this?

Similar to what Big Fella used here.

Or do people recommend something like this?

Realistically I'll only use it for:

    1 - fridge (Waeco 60L CF)
2 - strip lighting along awning
    3 - charging too many 'I' devices.

But who knows in the future.

Was looking at the dual Narva Merit sockets but they still require 2 sets of red and 2 sets of 2 black wires. ie basically just a holder for 2 single sockets as far as I can see. There was an el cheapo one near it that had the wiring so that there was only 1 red and 1 black out. It was cig only though.

    cheers,

    Mark,

This is what I did. I run the fridge off an Anderson Plug.

I just ran the 8mm2 straight to female spade with male extensions and these plug straight into plug one, then ran 25Amp cable with make spades from the extensions to the second plug with a 20Amp blade fuse. Only running the same things you are.

        Thanks Brains/Symo,
Brains, that's a pretty impressive setup.
Symo, I've seen the male/female connectors.
Will just have to make a decision and go for it.

        cheers,

I suspect that the C/B is actually not going to proect anything at all becasue you ran four small cables in parallel. with a fault in one there is a chance that it will burn the cable before the C/B trips.

I am also very good at being wrong.

"What is the circuit breaker installed there for?"
There are 3 wires on the circuit breaker, so I guess the breaker is being used as a distribution point while protecting something else, perhaps an external anderson plug? A very simple and install.

Dare say the function of the breaker there is as Lee has suggested. Also if a Solar Panel is plugged into one of the Anderson plugs, then the breaker will trip if there is a fault further down the line towards the battery that it's connected back to...

Brains, how does that volt meter work? Does the little press button turn it on or is it on all the time?

                  Cheers

A question for experts out there.... I'm going run a cable from the front to back with a circuit break and the isolator in the engine bay to an anderson socket in the cargo area for charging of an Arkpak. Do I need another circuit breaker in back just before the anderson socket?

From what I understand, you want a CB at either end because it's always going to try the shortest path so having one either end should protect the devices at each end.

anywhere you have a battery, put a breaker/fuse in the positive cable as close to the battery as possible.

Thanks guys. Would two 100amp resettable ciruit breakers be sufficient if I'm running 4B&S (20mm) cable?
