Has anyone got any information they could share on the new LED headlights (low beam) with VX/Kakadu models?
How bright? How do they compare to the HID's from models before?
Just new to this 4wd forum (1st post) but pick up my Vx on Friday. First prado, first proper 4x4. I have hids on my current car which have just been awesome for the country driving I do so looking forward to comparing with the LED lights this comes with.
Not a great comparison with what you asked but a comparison nonetheless.
I have a low beam HID kit in my 2012 GXL Prado and want to know how the new VX's are in the dark. I do a heap of night driving on country roads so my next car needs to have VERY good low beam lights. With the facelift Prado's having reflector/spreading style lights on the GX and GXL it looks like you won't get away with a HID kit like in the previous models with projector lights
Yeah it's frustrating with little manufacturer improvements like that. I figure these are designed to up sell you into higher spec models when all you wanted was to make one little change! Will let you know.
Due to crazy lease arrangements I could still potentially have both new Vx and old car in the driveway so if this happens, should be a good comparison.
Ok, so this doesn't answer your question directly as I'm not comparing it to a previous model but here goes.
The low beam is a very nice white light with a good spread and pretty acceptable range. The high beam seems to be the traditional "yellow" like most cars but it looks like I can see into next week with it. My other car had HIDS for low and high beam and was just brilliant. May see if it's possible to "upgrade" the high beam in the trusty Vx but will do a search here for advice.
If you're basing a purchase decision on this Roof it may be worth seeing if a dealer or fellow Prado pointer in the west can let you see it for yourself.
I'm still in new car heaven with what must be the finest 4x4 designed!
Has anyone found these light assembly's for sale? It would be a nice upgrade if the cost was realistic! I've searched eBay with no luck. Google didn't help either, sometimes you just can't find things though as they use weird names!!

totally agree with VXdaz, comparing my new VX to the 120 I just upgraded from, the high beams are amazingly bright with a long range. As for the standard driving lights the white light is more comfortable to drive with; although I would prefer a little more range.
Yeah chimma, I agree on the low beam range needing a few more metres.
Saving up for a bull bar and light set up where the brief will be a long the lines of "I want to be able to see into next month on high beam thanks" ;-)

I don't think we can raise them any higher for the extra meter/s? Looking at the "white" light level on the rear of cars infront, I think is already pushing the limit before lighting up the inside of it.
I have been eyeing of the new ARB intensity LED spottys...
