Yeah I'm interested too. Almost bought a standard tow pro yesterday for my car until I saw the new Elite model was there too.

Apparently it's automatically self calibrating all the time. So there's no need for the initial calibration test.

I've always had the RedArc remote head unit in my 4x4's and always been impressed with them. Given I'm a tall dude, not having a brake controller hitting my knees is important and the RedArc units are perfect for that.

Always the way, buy something and then it is out-dated immediately LOL
The only difference that I can see between them is the new one has no need for initial calibration
The Tow-Pro™ Elite features Active Calibration which constantly monitors the direction of travel removing the need for an initial calibration process, the unit will even calibrate with no trailer attached whilst maintaining the ability to mount in any orientation.
for an extra 10 bucks I would have bought it ;-)

Wow, I'd booked my Prado in for a TowPro to be fitted this coming Wednesday ... good on you PradoPoint, I'll now be making sure I get the new Elite model!

What's the price difference? You only need to run the calibration test once, unless you change the unit to a new vehicle. Calibration takes about 2 minutes. Its not that much of a technical leap forward

            Redarc Tow Pro

$330 vs $350 retail from memory. Plus you can buy the older tow pro online for $240-250.

Tested mine today. Worked well. A little delay in calibrating I suspect because I was on a gravel driveway but once on the bitumen it worked everything out and no issues. Very happy.

Good to read the positive reviews for the tow pro. I just ordered a tow pro elite as the off road trailer I made came in a bit heavier then I planned at 450 kg, so it was a no brainer to fit electric brakes. I had a look at some of the other controllers but liked the idea of the remote and plus I have been really happy with my Redarc dual battery unit.

Now I can look forward to the fun of the install! :-)

I have just pulled the camper up to the beach. No issues whatsoever. Guess it weighs about 1.3/1.4t so I set the towpro to 5 on auto. Camper behaved beautifully.

Had a concerning issue after installing a TowPro Elite (by an auto-electrician) ... when I drove out I immediately notice that the car brakes faded significantly, almost to the point you have to pump them to stop. Sparky went over it very carefully and couldn't see any reason for this, said the brake system didn't get touched during install apart from getting the brake light signal into the TowPro.

Am taking to my dealer first thing on Monday (car is a new 2.8 model that is only a couple of months old) to get them to check the brakes. Anyone got any ideas here? Is it possible the install has somehow reset the brake pedal calibration or that there's something in the brake electrics that have been affected ... seems too coincidental for the brake function to have immediately changed after having electrical work for it to not be related.

Pretty sure when I wired mine (2014 GXL) wired off brake light and not pedal for switch wire into unit. I used a P2 controller, but wiring for main connections should be the same. Check where he has taken connection from. I cant imagine an auto elec who has probably done heaps of Prado's would get it wrong with connections. Maybe something has changed on this model.

                          Redarc Tow Pro

Weird. Maybe he's damaged the connection at the pedal wire?

I can't see how any elec work would affect this, as the brake pedal is a direct linkage to th master cylinder.

I would check your fluid level as you may have a leak. Let us know what happens as I'm about to install the same unit in my new 2.8 as well

Be careful. Some cars use the brake switch wire for more than just lighting up the brake lights and the signal goes to the ECU which talks to the braking system. I would disconnect the brake light trigger wire and see if the problem is fixed. If yes then patch off you trailer plug and run the forward. Previous Prados were ok but I have no idea about the changes to the 2.8. I know when I wired up a mates 'non Toyota' the Internet was full of horror stories so I didn't chance it and ran the line forward.
