  • Dash computer/audio system

    Hi,

Does anyone have any info on the computer/audio system that runs the display screen, or hints for how to remove it from the car? Specifically a 2013-14 model would be good.
I'm an electrical/computer engineer and I'd like to "investigate" how to make sat nav maps "appear" in my GXL. There is likely all sorts of interesting things in there that could be done.

If it is anything like Holden the audio and visual system will be controlled by a can bus. You will therefore need to obtain the codes and language toyota uses for its control system. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAN_bus

You will then need to build an interface to turn on the screen when the GPS is connected and provide communications between the touch screen inputs and the GPS module. Its possible. It will also help if you work for Bosch.

There is a rumour that Toyoyta may offer an integrated GPS as an add on in future models. But I bet it will not be backward compatible.

PeeJay, I would be very interested to find out as well. I'm thinking it is a firmware hack or similar to enable all the goodies.
I haven't looked at the rear of the unit to see what interfaces maybe there. But that would be a good starting point I suppose.

      Cheers
