  • Power to roof of 150 ??

PPrs, Just after advice from anyone who's run power to the roof/roof tray of their 150 for either lighting or other....

I'm considering hooking up a strip light in my awning and running it down to a Baintech panel (using the spare 4th switch) inside the rear of the 150...Also considering mounting an LED light bar up top off the front of the Rhino Tray...

Just after feedback from anyone who's done either or similar, and can guide me on the best place to get power to the roof, while still ensuring the Prado stays water tight

    Cheers
    Colmano

Try up the side of the windscreen. On my 120 there's a little channel in the rubber that I squeezed some cable into

I've run my cableing from under the bonnet , down the left side if the chassis rail, pops out in between the plastic rear bumper and the body at the left side of the rear door. Then laid the cable behind the rubber door seal. Cable pops out of the seal and up onto the roof and into my ARB roof cage. Toyota have convenient ly provided an inch gap between the body and the rear door. Powers two spotlights a rear worklight, also have the uhf aerial mounted on the roof cage as the coax uhf cable follows the same path. No drilling or damage to panels / body.

This is how I got my power to the rear roof rack for my work lights. The cables runs down to the rubber sheath that houses the cables for the rear door and I have fed the cables through there.

I really need to get some new bolts for those lights, apparently they aren't stainless like the box said.

Where exactly did you feed the cables through ?

I fed them through the rubber sheath that houses the cable for the barn door. I pushed a piece of wire through from the inside and pulled through the dual core for the work lights.

I'll try to remember to get photo tomorrow.

Just a note about running the cable down the rear door seal. Water will get in through the gap there and pool at the bottom part of the seal and rust away the body seam.

mmm...maybe I'll just plug it in when I need to use it...should still be able to close back door without cutting wire...

You can definitely shut the back door with cables coming out. I have had my fridge plugged into 240V many times with the door shut.

Sorry about the crappy photo. Have the camper hooked atm.

I think there is a grommet up high on the passenger side that you could run a cable through down to the tail light area without interfering with the door seal.
