I run hid lights on my motorbike, and get the occasional flash by oncoming drivers which I like.
I know they can see me...!

It's all about safety on a bike, and I think the same goes for the car as well.
Daytime running lights, led, hid or standard are A good thing I reckon.
How many times a day does someone pull out in front of me in Sydney traffic....more than enough. But if I have lights on it makes a difference for sure.
Bright lights on both day and night is the way to go, both for safety and vision, especially in the outback away from street lights.
I have big 240mm lightforce spotties on the front and will be putting an led light bar on shortly.
Light bar to compliment the hi beam and spotties for out of town driving.

Yes, I think the LED light bar and spotties combo is a winner!

Well gone ahead an did the upgrade to 35w HID. What a difference it has made, living in the country you need good lights. I can understand people complaining about the HID lights in the city and yes there are bright in your eyes, but out here where we live you really need good lights, the old ones just didn't cut it. There are hundreds of roos here.
And yes a light bar and spotties are the way to go, I have a 32inch light bar and two 240 blitz light force spotlights upgraded to 50w HID.

Good stuff what colour (K) 35W did you go?
As long as you have them adjusted down enough you won't blind people. I tested mine out over a week of night driving and if they are pointing up too much people will flash you

Got 6000k ones my spotties are 6000k ones also. I also have poly air bags and keep them pumped up to about 15 psi so lights are angled down anyway.
I haven't been flashed yet, if I do I will adjust them down.
Just bought the high beam in 55w 6000k and replacement globes in 25w led also 6000k for fog light upgrade and a heap of T10 globes for everything else.

              HID Low beam

Yesterday,25/04/2015, I fitted a conversion kit sourced from Off-road Industries. It was very easy to fit and the low beam is magic with solid light side to side. This is an experiment and probably not long term. HID conversions are illegal as the car does not have self levelling suspension/headlights and does not have headlight washers. The beam control seems good but I have not had any real testing time due to heavy rain. I also have Lightforce Genesis halogen spots. The light intensity of the low beams seems to divert one's vision from the distance to the foreground which is natural as the human eye will be drawn to the strongest light. This issue may be the downfall of the HID low beam. There is a need to balance the low, high and spot light intensity so perhaps HID for all may work.

HIDs in projector headlights with self levelling and washer jets?

                HIDs into reflector headlights?

Don't forget that an HID bulb is a different size with different focal points to a halogen bulb. This messes with the physics of the headlight reflector surfaces which was designed around the halogen bulb, hence the scattered beam blinding oncoming drivers.

as above poster HughL says, HID's should only be put in self levelling OEM headlights/projector lenses with headlight washers.

For those people already with the HID converted headlights, please clean your headlight lenses regularly. A dirty lens increases light scatter and dazzles oncoming drivers no matter how low the lights are aimed.
