  • Redarc SBI12 cycling on and off every 5 seconds

As the topic says, my Redarc solenoid is cycling in and out every 5 seconds or so. It's only started doing it tonight, its been installed for a year with no issues.

Any ideas as to why? I'm going to check all connections and battery conditions tomorrow, but thought I'd ask here in the the meantime.

    Cheers

What's the main battery like? All good? Best thing to do is check the main battery voltage when the Redarc is cycling. If the battery is over 13.2V check the auxiliary under the same conditions. There have been a few reports of SBi1- doing wonky things though. Worth going back to the seller if the batteries and connections are good.

Main battery seems ok, all levels ok and not bubbling. Its the original Panasonic one, it was tested last month for its service and came back ok. All the connections seem ok, earth is tight and clean.

Idling the main is charging at 14.12 and the aux is charging at 13.07, same at the redarc terminals. Loaded up with lights the main drops to 13.92. It's not cycling in and out at the moment, so I have to wait for it to do it again.

The only thing I will add is we just came back from a trip where we had the fridge and some led camp lights running, the aux battery went flat after 2 days which was sooner than normal but it was 40 degrees and the fridge was working overtime.

Speak to your supplier/installer of the Redarc unit, or else contact the Redarc company by phone or email.

Emailed Redarc company re a problem and received a phone call the next day. Problem solved.

Vin should equal Vout. Something is going on. What main voltage does it trip out at when the engine is off?

Doesn't do it when turned off, cycles 3 times when shutting down then stays off

Just put a multimeter across it, at idle (after a decent drive so warmed up) with no accessories the main is now charging at 13.4v constantly, the redarc terminal from the main is 13.4 but drops to 12.5v when it clicks in. The other terminal and main battery are both at constant 12.5v.

I would get both batteries load tested.

I will to be sure, I've done a cheats test on my main (lights, ac, radio etc on then cranking and watching for bubbles) but that was fine, my aux battery isn't hooked up for bypass jump so couldn't test it. Having said that, its a yellowtop and only 12 months old so it should be under warranty if its cactus.

For now I've disconnected it, just using the main for around town

edit: I haven't got the diode booster so everything else is stock in there

If you leave the redarc hooked up to the main, but disconnected from the aux and start the engine, redarc should (from memory) click in and stay in, which would then indicate problem with 2nd battery
