With the Anderson plugs you linked to, ensure that they are genuine. At that price, and with postage included, I doubt that they are.
I couldn't be sure with the ones on ebay so I bought from a US store, or visit shops like Home of 12 Volt, Jaycar etc. Also make sure you get the correct size lugs for the cable you are running.
Second circuit breaker. Check. Is 50 amp big enough?
The Anderson plugs aren't genuine. They were the best priced pack of 2.
Dumb question: can one, being really cheap, charge a battery with a simple cable from the main battery to say my aux battery on the ground by the front wheel?

My eBay shopping list needs some tidying up. It was more of a sanity check list. I'll firm it up and run it past you helpful people before committing.
In the really short term, say, I am going camping this weekend if weather permits, a set of jumper leads could help ensure my battery stays charged. Run the prado for an hour, half with the aux battery connected, half without to ensure the main battery is charged??

Assuming you run the fridge off the second battery, then no need to run the car for half an hour to top up the crank battery. Start the car, attach jumper leads, the alternator should easily keep enough juice up to the crank battery while the auxiliary charges. Disconnect the jumper cables and maybe run the engine for a minute or 2 just to be sure.
If you can run the fridge off a circuit connected to the crank battery then run that whilst you have the engine running.
Cheers Andrew

This is legendary advice.
The plan is to, and some people are dead set against this idea, run the fridge off the 12v outlet in the back of the car while I drive to my location. When I get to my location, swap over to the aux battery, setting the temp to about 2 degC.
As per the jumper lead advice, connect up the aux battery and charge it for a bit in the evening.
All of this until I do it properly...eBay fun here I come.

I did some research myself, and I know I wont want to bring the battery down to 0%, but the 50% rule seemed to apply to house powering systems...but it is something to keep an eye on.

In an ideal world you wouldn't do any of that, but it will get you out of a jam. I ran a fridge of the standard outlet in the rear of my first Prado for a year or so.

Yeah it's not ideal, but when I get "let's go camping this weekend" from my "I don't do camping" girlfriend, I have to take the opportunity. And work out how to keep the fridge cold for the whole weekend.
